FBD INSURANCE TIPPERARY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Since the FBD Insurance County Championships sprang into action back in mid-July, time, it seemed, gathered momentum as we were whisked along in the continuous motion and excitement that the hurling and football championships provided us with this year. While supporters had to view proceedings by and large remotely, the excitement and appetite for games never waned where the quality of this year's championships were superb. To that end we thank all our clubs for the wonderful spirit and co-operation they showed throughout the championships in trying circumstances, as we focus in on the last two major weekends for now.

Semple Stadium will next Sunday host the FBD Insurance Co. Senior Hurling Final when the Field of Legends welcomes Loughmore-Castleiney and Kiladangan for the hurling showpiece event as both sides battle it out for the Dan Breen Cup.

Remarkably, there has been no previous meeting in a county final, semi-final or quarter-final of this final pairing, considering the great form of both sides in recent times. Sunday, therefore, will lay down a new marker and possibly being a rivalry for the coming years.

Loughmore-Castleiney go in search of their 4th Tipperary hurling title while Kiladangan go in search of their maiden win having come so close last year. The county final record for both clubs reads as follows;

Loughmore Castleiney

1983 lost to Borris-Ileigh 0-17 to 1-11

1987 lost to Cappawhite 1-17 to 2-13

1988 defeated Borris-Ileigh 2-7 to1-8 in replay. The drawn result was Loughmore-Castleiney 1-6 Borris-Ileigh 0-9

2007 defeated Drom-Inch 0-22 to 0-13

2013 defeated Nenagh Éire Óg 1-17 to 1-16 (also won Munster title)

2014 lost to Thurles Sarsfields 2-22 to 3-11

Kiladangan

1934 (with Kilbarron) lost to Moycarkey-Borris 3-6 to 2-3

1938 lost to Thurles Sarsfields 7-7 to 2-2

2016 lost to Thurles Sarsfields 0-27 to 1-15

2019 lost to Borris-Ileigh 1-15 to 1-12.

With experienced and hugely talented players lining out for both sides, it promises to be a thrilling spectacle, the only downside being the lack of supporters to watch from the stands. The final however will be broadcast live on TG4 with throw-in at 2pm.

The FBD Insurance Seamus Ó Riain final is the first of the finals to get under way in Semple Stadium this weekend when Mullinahone and Lorrha-Dorrha meet on Saturday. Mullinahone came through their semi-final after a hard fought victory over Newport while Lorrha found the going somewhat easier in their semi-final win.

This final has all the hallmarks of a thriller with both sides eagerly looking to make it to the top tier. The action throws in at 2pm and the game will be streamed live on https://tipperary.gaa.ie/ with details further in the bulletin.

Also, on Saturday the FBD Insurance Intermediate Football final between Grangemockler-Ballyneale and Rockwell Rovers will be played in Clonmel Sportsfield. This represents a huge occasion for both clubs that are making tremendous strides in recent times and it should be an intriguing contest.

The remaining fixture this weekend is the FBD Insurance Senior Football relegation final between Ardfinnan and Galtee Rovers/St. Pecaun which goes ahead in Cahir on Saturday at 2pm.

Best wishes to all our clubs in action this weekend.

All knockout fixtures include extra time and finish on the day and we send best wishes to all clubs in action this weekend.

All the relevant regulations covering the rules regarding finish on the day have been sent to club secretaries by CCC secretary Tom Maher. Club secretaries must inform team managements of the regulations so they can familiarise themselves with what will happen in the event of a game going to finish on the day.

In the FBD Insurance senior football semi-final last weekend Loughmore-Castleiney and Moyle Rovers served up an exciting match with the mid side emerging victorious to ensure dual senior county final status. Best of luck to them in the county final on Sunday week and commiserations to Moyle Rovers who bow out following Saturday's defeat.

The FBD Insurance Intermediate Hurling final will be contested between Moyne-Templetuohy and Gortnahoe-Glengoole following their semi-final victories last weekend.

Finally for now, in FBD Insurance senior hurling relegation final Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill survive in the top tier after their four point win over Burgess, commiserations to Burgess.

NEW TIPPERARY GAA CLUBS DRAW

The confirmation that the new Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw will finally commence with the opening draw this Friday, September 18th, will be of huge relief and interest to all clubs and draw supporters.

With current restrictions it looks like the draw will have to be held behind closed doors, so the plan of the draw committee is to hold it live on Tipp FM at 8.30pm.

Draw Returns

The committee are appealing to clubs to complete their full return by this Thursday night to allow the team get ready for Friday and the live draw on Tipp FM.

Over the past few days Lár na Páirce staff have been in touch with all clubs for an update on their progress. Overall, the draw committee are pleased with the response and are confident draw numbers will hold up which is remarkable in the current climate. Whilst some clubs are making a great effort signing up new members, the fear is that a few clubs that are making little effort could drag numbers down. At this late stage the draw committee is appealing to every club to at least retain all their members from the last draw in March 2020.

Assist your Club Draw Co-Ordinator

From phone calls received, the draw committee have also become aware of a disconnect between some club officers and their club draw co-ordinator who at this time should be getting every assistance from the top table. This is possibly the biggest fundraiser your club will have this year so it should be all hands-on deck for the next few days to make it work. The committee would also like all returns to be made on an excel package document which was sent out from the office but unfortunately only half of the draw co-ordinators are using it. The advantage of the excel package is that your club enters all your members' details directly into the draw data-base which gives you complete control of your own members and speeds up the whole entry process. Please check if your co-ordinator is using it and if not offer assistance from someone in the club who is familiar with using excel.

There are still spare brochures (not personalized), flyers, posters, new application forms etc. in the office in Lár na Páirce so don't be afraid to request more.

The draw committee and county board are looking forward to the support of all our clubs for the new Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw.

Remember the brochure catchphrase, 'It's Our Club - Our County - Our Draw', let's make sure we keep it successful.

Win BIG, with a prize fund of €65,000, including 2 cars in the first draw on 18th September - sign up now https://tipperary.gaa.ie/shop/tipperary-2020-2021-draw/

FRIENDS OF TIPPERARY FOOTBALL GOLF CLASSIC

The Friends of Tipperary Football are running their annual Golf Classic in Thurles Golf Club on Friday and Saturday October 2nd and 3rd. This year the Friends are again delighted to have Teneo as the main sponsor.

Last year's event was a huge success with 110 teams taking part and the Friends hope this year's Classic will be as successful where tee times are already filling up well.

The Friends are asking for support of this fundraiser by registering a team of 4 players with 2 to score on each hole, non GUI handicaps must play off 18. All support is most welcome and very much appreciated.

Tee booking is open for those wishing to take part or for any further information please contact Martin Dwyer 086 2549154 or any committee member

HEALTH & WELLBEING

The Super Games Centre (SGC) initiative is being offered to clubs nationally as announced this week by the GAA Health & Wellbeing Administrator in Croke Park.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the Association has had to look at an effective way to deliver the SGC initiative, which offers youths aged 12-17 the opportunity to participate in games that are informal in nature in a club based setting.

The Games Development Department and Community & Health Department are combining their efforts to roll out the SGC initiative with the assistance of our Healthy Club Officers, Games Development Administrators, Games Promotion Officers and Club Coaching Officers. It is planned to go ahead during the autumn and winter months, October to December, after club competitions finish.

The opportunity to participate is open to all our clubs, while the clubs participating in the Healthy Club Project may consider the SGC initiative as a selected Area of Work. In total there are 150 club places available for this year.

Also, there is an information sharing webinar being hosted on Thursday next, 17th September at 7.00pm. It is for full time Games Development personnel, Healthy Club Officers and Club Coaching Officers to attend. CHWC committee members are more than welcome to join.

If you have any questions relating to GAA Club Super Games initiative, you can contact the National Super Games Coordinator Tracy Bunyan at tracy.bunyan@gaa.ie or contact County Games Development Manager Dinny Maher at dinny.maher.gda.tipperary@gaa.ie
