CLUB FIXTURES

After another busy weekend for club action the quarter-finalists are now know in the FBD Insurance County Senior and Intermediate Hurling Championships. In the FBD Insurance County Senior Hurling Championship Preliminary Quarter-Finals extra time was required in both fixtures last Sunday before the winners could be decided. HEALTH AND WELLBEING

County Tipperary was well represented at the Healthy Club Conference in Croke Park on Saturday. The conference saw 84 GAA clubs from the 32 counties graduate from phase 3 of the project. Congratulations to Lorrha-Dorrha and Newport who were among the graduates on the day. Players' representative on the national committee Noel McGrath was also in attendance and the keynote address was given by renowned coaching tutor Paudie Butler. The Drom & Inch man gave a very well received talk on how the development of the child including their wellbeing lies at the heart of all good coaching and is fundamental to the principles of the Healthy Club Project. Phase 4 of the Healthy Club Project is due to be launched shortly and the County Committee are encouraging more clubs in Tipperary to consider entering as they believe every club is promoting wellbeing without realizing the positive contribution they are making to their communities. Further information can be accessed through https://www.gaa.ie/my-gaa/community-and-health/healthy-club/ or email chair.hwc.tipperary@gaa.ie

HANDBALL

There was a sensational finish to the Handball Championships for 2019 with Tipperary winning the Boys U17S title. Represented by Patrick Delaney from Tipperary Town who plays with Cashel Handball Club, the Tipperary player in his first year of competitive handball swept through Munster and defeated Tom Carroll from A person posing for a pictureDescription automatically generatedKilkenny 21/9 21/2 in the semi-final. In the final he was up against Brian McAleer from Tyrone and shocked the powerful McAleer by taking the first game 21/18. Patrick led that first game 16/6 but a great comeback by McAleer levelled at 16 all. Delaney, however, finished off the first and made no mistake in the second winning 21/6 to take the All-Ireland title. Congratulations to Patrick on his All-Ireland success, pictured right with losing finalist Brian McAleer.

BOOK RESEARCH INFORMATION SOUGHT

Jim Fogarty, author of two previous books, ‘Dan Breen Cup’ and ‘The Cross of Cashel’, is now working on a book on minor All-Ireland hurling finals (under 18). The 1934 final is causing Jim problems. Tipperary defeated Laois by 4-3 to 3-5, with a controversial goal in injury time and it appears that none of the match reports give an account of the scorer. If anyone can provide information or recollect being told the name of the goal scorer can you please contact Jim Fogarty, 086 1512946 jimkfog1@gmail.com
