MUNSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

In the Electric Ireland Munster Minor hurling championship, Tipperary made it through to Sunday's final following their 2-13 to 0-12 victory over Waterford last Saturday. Goals in each half from Jack Leamy (Golden-Kilfeacle) and Kenny Lee (Roscrea) ensured Tipperary's season continues to this weekend at least.

On Sunday next, December 20th, Tipperary will play Limerick in the Munster Final where throw-in is at 1pm and at time of going to press the venue was still to be confirmed.

Tipperary with 40 Munster titles lead the provincial roll of honour list and were winners in 2018 when the minor age went from U18 to U17. Many of that Munster winning team are current members of the Tipperary U20 panel which will take to the field in Dungarvan tonight.

So, again, best wishes to the team and their management led by Paul Collins in the final on Sunday.

MUNSTER MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Commiserations to the Tipperary minor football team and management after their loss to Clare in the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Championship last Saturday evening on a score line of 1-24 to 1-4. Captain, Toby Lambe (Holycross-Ballycahill) was Tipperary's goal scorer in a game where his side battled away to the end but were unable to cope with the power and pace of the Banner men.

SEÁN O'BRIEN RETIRMENT

Best wishes and thanks for the memories to Newport's Seán O'Brien who last week announced his retirement from inter-county action. A ferociously competitive corner back Seán graced the field of play for the past 15 years in the blue and gold, capping off his career with an All-Ireland winners medal in 2019.

MIXED FORTUNES

Congratulations to Darren Gleeson (Portroe) on guiding Antrim to Joe McDonagh Cup success last weekend in Croke Park, while commiserations to Liam Cahill (Ballingarry) as his Waterford side lost out to Limerick in the All-Ireland senior hurling final.

TIPPERARY FOOTBALL COMMITTEE CONVENTION

The annual convention of the Tipperary Football Committee took place last Thursday night and best wishes to all new officers taking up positions on the committee. Conor O'Dwyer (Upperchurch-Drombane) takes up the chairman's role while Fearghal McDonnell (JK Brackens) is new vice chairman. The new secretary is James Williams (Moyle Rovers) and Anthony Shelley (JK Brackens) no stranger to using the pen is the new PRO.

Best wishes and thanks to Barry O'Brien, Hugh Coghlan and Enda O'Sullivan who completed their terms in office on the committee.

FIFTH TIPPERARY GAA CLUBS DRAW

Congratulations to all the winners in the 5th Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw which took place last Friday night. First prize of a Renault Clio / Skoda Fabia or €15,000 went to Eoghan Lonergan who is a draw member with Arravale Rovers, while second prize of €5,000 Holiday Voucher or Cash went to Daniel Madden and Templederry Kenyons GAA Club was the promoter.

TIPPERARY G.A.A. YEARBOOK 2021

The Tipperary G.A.A. Yearbook 2021 is in local bookshops now and is available for €15.

It’s the G.A.A. record of what happened in club and county over the past twelve months, and while club and county activity was somewhat curtailed by Covid-19, there were enough exciting hurling and football matches to whet the appetite.

As well as what happened in hurling and football, there was quite a lot of activity in camogie, ladies football, handball, Scór and Coiste na nÓg, and all these are covered in extensive detail, not only in text but in an array of colourful photographs as well.

The two major events of 2020 are generously covered. The centenary of Bloody Sunday is remembered with a number of articles, including one by Seamus McCarthy which includes biographical details of the 18 players who made up the panel on that fateful day. The event is remembered also in the cover of the book, which contrasts with the normal look. And, of course the great victory of the senior footballers is well remembered on the cover and in the main text.

With all of the above and more it will be an ideal Christmas present for the Tipperary supporter in your life.

BUÍOCHAS

So, as I come to the end of my term as PRO for Tipperary Co. Board I wish to thank most sincerely everyone that assisted me along the way since late January 2015 when I stepped in as 'acting PRO' before convention elected me later in the year. It has been a wonderful honour to serve as a Tipperary Co. Board Officer and I will always cherish it and be indebted to all our clubs for the wonderful friendship, support and gratitude shown to me over the years. There are far too many individuals and groups to separately mention.

However, I wish to thank especially my fellow officers who are now close friends for life, John Devane, Tim Floyd, Joe Kennedy and Michael Power and officers I served with previously Michael Bourke, who introduced me to the role, and Eamonn Buckley, the county management committee, Co. Board delegates, the staff in Lár na Páirce, Semple Stadium and Dr. Morris Park, for all your support, encouragement and assistance.

I want to thank in particular Tipperary Co. Secretary Tim Floyd for the warmth of his friendship and full support. He is a superb administrator with a personality to match and is on top of his game 24/7. Extremely knowledgeable and efficient in all areas of the Association, it was a pleasure to work alongside him.

Special thanks also to Tipperary Co. Board IT Officer Lisa Stapleton who has been a tremendous help to me over the years with all social media posts and duties and much more besides.

I express my best wishes and continued success to Joe Kennedy, incoming Co. Chairman and his board of officers for the years ahead, and in particular the newly elected PRO, to whom I will be there to support and assist in any way I can.

To the previous Co. PRO's, divisional PRO's and communications committee for your support along the way, with a special word of thanks to the lady who set the template for us all, Liz Howard, a wonderful friend with a gentle and reassuring word at all times.

I had the wonderful privilege of being PRO at a time of great success for Tipperary. So, to all the managers and management teams, players and backroom staff that I served with, words cannot express my thanks to you all, for your work ethic and commitment, your trust and bond and above all your friendship.

I thank also Tipperary Games Development Manager Dinny Maher and his GDA team for their help and support and to thank them for their brilliant efforts during the first lockdown earlier this year. They reached out wonderfully to all children by keeping activities and challenges alive in a virtual arena.

I thank all my friends and colleagues in Moycarkey-Borris GAA Club. Following two previous club men, the legendary 'Cúlbaire' John O'Grady and Ed Donnelly in the position of County PRO were not going to be easy shoes to fill, but with the tremendous support of successive club chairmen and the club executive that task was made all the easier.

Compiling the GAA Scene each week is a team effort at times and I wish to thank those who have helped me along the way with items for submission, with special mention and thanks to Seamus O'Doherty (GAA historian), Cora Moroney (Chairperson Health & Wellbeing Committee), Paddy Collins (Tipperary Handball PRO), Seosaimhin Ní Cathail and Mark Dunne (Scór Committee), Ed Donnelly and Tipperary Supporters Club to name but a few.

A huge word of gratitude and thanks also to Brendan Maher, Pat Costigan and all in the County Tipperary Hurling Club New York for your contributions over the years.

I am indebted to our local media for their continued support and coverage of the GAA Scene during my tenure.

Having come through probably the toughest months the industry has seen in generations, the print media have hopefully weathered the storm and require the continued support of all the community to ensure their survival and renaissance.

Provincial newspapers are and have been the lifeblood of news in rural Ireland for well over a century. While advances continue to be made in online technology, there still has to be a place for the printed word in the conversation. If all else was to metamorphose and disappear the hard copy of print would still survive as it has done for centuries.

Unfortunately, this year too, we said goodbye to loved ones near and dear to us and on my own behalf and that of Tipperary Co. Board, we again expresses our sympathies to all bereaved during the year.

In conclusion, I wish to thank most of all my family, especially my wife Tina, James and Ciara, and my brothers and sisters for their wonderful support and encouragement.

Before I skip off, I want to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year, and best wishes to all our Tipperary teams and clubs in 2021 and beyond.

Go raimh mile maith agat go léir agus slán.
