FBD INSURANCE TIPPERARY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Despite the current restrictions and non-attendances at Gaelic games fixtures for now, the 2020 FBD Insurance Tipperary Club Championships have been a revelation with no shortage of drama and intrigue to keep absent hearts and minds fully absorbed in the highs and lows of all the action. This of course is due, in no small part, to the wonderful thanks, co-operation and ingenuity of all our clubs and Tipperary Co. Secretary Tim Floyd and IT Officer Lisa Stapleton and the county board streaming partners, who between them have ensured as many games as possible are streamed on various platforms so that Tipperary supporters at home and abroad can see the action unfold each week at club and county level.

With opinions varying from supporter to supporter on the possible outcomes, the action on the field of play, ultimately, as it always will, decides who would progress and live to fight another day.

Last weekend was no different in the FBD Insurance senior hurling quarter-finals where the drama was spread over Saturday and Sunday with two north teams, Kiladangan and Nenagh Éire Óg prevailing on Saturday, while it was the turn of the mid on Sunday with Loughmore-Castleiney and Drom & Inch coming out on top. Drom, as we know, securing the rite of passage after a penalty shootout with neighbours Borris-Ileigh.

The line-up for this weekend's semi-finals has paired Loughmore-Castleiney with Nenagh Éire Óg while Drom-Inch square up to Kiladangan. Of the two fixtures there has only been one previous semi-final meeting and that was back in 2007 when Loughmore-Castleiney defeated Nenagh Éire Óg 0-15 to 0-13. There has been no previous semi-final meeting of Drom-Inch and Kiladangan.

The stakes really don't get any higher at this stage of the championship as each side knows victory will see their club march on to contest the Dan Breen Cup final on September 20th.

The Seamus Ó Riain semi-finals will equally have huge interest as Mullinahone and Newport get the weekend action in Semple Stadium under way on Saturday, with the second semi-final between Killenaule and Lorrha-Dorrha being played on Sunday.

It's a big weekend for the minor hurling championships too with the 'A' and 'B' finals down for decision on Sunday. In the 'A' final Thurles Sarsfields will be looking to put their recent senior setback behind them as they take on Cashel King Cormacs who saw off a fancied Ballina outfit in their semi-final. Elsewhere, Arravale Rovers are in the 'B' final as they await the outcome of this Wednesday's semi-final clash between Moycarkey-Borris and Cahir.

Finally, on the hurling front for now, there is one relegation final this weekend which is in the Seamus Ó Riain where Ballingarry and Sean Treacy's meet in Cashel on Saturday.

Turning the attention to football the first of the FBD Insurance senior football semi-finals throws in on Saturday evening when Kilsheelan-Kilcash and Clonmel Commercials meet in Ardfinnan. As Loughmore-Castleiney are also in the hurling semi-final, their game against Moyle Rovers will take place on Saturday September 12th.

Also, on Saturday the FBD Insurance intermediate football semi-finals go ahead when Rockwell Rovers and Moyle Rovers meet in Cahir, while Clonmel will host the meeting of Fethard and Grangemockler-Ballyneale.

Relegation worries loom for some clubs too with both senior and one intermediate football relegation semi-finals down for decision on Sunday.

It is certainly going to be a packed weekend for clubs involved, again unfortunately void of the attendances that would love to be there. You can, however, watch all the action in the FBD Insurance senior hurling and football and Seamus Ó Riain semi-finals as it unfolds live on the Tipperary GAA website https://tipperary.gaa.ie/ details further in the bulletin.

All knockout fixtures include extra time and finish on the day. With a huge amount at stake for all clubs, we send best wishes to all clubs in action this weekend.

All the relevant regulations covering the rules regarding finish on the day have been sent to club secretaries by CCC secretary Tom Maher. Club secretaries must inform team managements of the regulations so they can familiarise themselves with what will happen in the event of a game going to finish on the day.

Tipperary GAA will also be streaming the FBD Insurance Senior Football Championship Semi-Final from Ardfinnan at 4.30pm this Saturday, 5th September between Kilsheelan-Kilcash and Clonmel Commercials, in conjunction with Robert Healy Photo & Video.

This game will be streamed free of charge on all official Tipperary GAA platforms, Tipperary GAA Facebook Live, Tipperary GAA Twitter and YouTube link provided on the Tipperary GAA website https://tipperary.gaa.ie/

Again, just to note that clubs must apply to Co. CCC for permission to video a game for analysis or streaming purposes. And where Tipperary Co. Board is already streaming a live game, clubs or individuals cannot stream the same game through their own resources.

MESSAGE FROM CO. OFFICERS

The officers of Tipperary Co. Board are once again appealing to all our patrons to respect the wishes of our Government and the National Public Health Advisory Group that all our games are played behind closed doors until September 13th.

This means for each participating club that only the panel of players and backroom personnel up to a max of 40 will be admitted along with media plus event and match officials.

Any unauthorized personnel trying to gain access is putting at risk their own health as well as the health of others and those they are going home to. We are asking our club officials to drive home this message to all your members. We appeal to all our patrons to take personal responsibility and stay away from our games unless you're included on your clubs list of 40.

Remember the sooner we can minimise the effects of the virus the sooner we can return to normality. We must all do our utmost to protect public health and we in the GAA are committed to playing our part.

Thanks for all your efforts to date as we look forward to September 13th when we hope our efforts will be rewarded. Please continue to stay safe and look after each other.

NEW TIPPERARY GAA CLUBS DRAW

We are just over two weeks from the first draw in the new Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw Scheme for 2020/21.

Friday September 18th is a key date for the success of the draw as our experience tells us the membership in that first night remains consistent for the full draw term. Tipperary GAA Draw Committee is very encouraged by the positive response to our extensive advertising and social media campaign to date. We will continue to maximize our efforts to assist the club promoters as you gather in the members during this vital period.

We are appealing to clubs to pull out all the stops for the next 16 days and maximize the potential of the draw for your club. Last week we sent out a realistic target for your club which we hope you are taking seriously and we also sent you promotion links and messages to circulate amongst your social media and contact groups. It's been a tough year but we can all make up lost ground financially by driving the Tipp Draw to its true potential.

Over the next few days staff from Lár na Páirce will be in touch with club secretaries for a progress report on the draw in your club. The call will focus on the following areas;

 Have you circulated all the draw material amongst the promoters?

 Are you meeting all your existing members to renew their membership?

 Are you getting a positive feedback?

 Did you receive the extra brochures and application forms posted out last week?

 Did you circulate the social media promotion link plus the WhatsApp promotion message?

 Have you done any internal promotion apart from ours?

 Have you plans to get new members e.g. juvenile parents, players etc.?

 Will you increase your membership?

 Are you aware of the Bonus commission...60% from 200-300 and 70% over 300.

 Do you need any extra draw material?

 Are you using the Excel package to make your returns for the first draw?

Please check with your club draw co-ordinator to assist with your replies to the above.

Last year we averaged 16,000 members and if your club can show an increase in your returns on Friday 18th you will have played your part in helping us achieve our aim of improving our overall membership.
