Things To Do In & Around Nenagh This Weekend

Nenagh Country Market

For a real taste of home baking visit Nenagh Country Market which takes place in the New Institute, Friar Street each Friday morning from 8.00am to 1.30pm. Locally produced goods include tarts, cakes, buns, fruit cakes, cheese cakes, lasagnes, quiches, breads, jams & chutneys, free range eggs, chickens and ducks. A wide range of locally grown potatoes and vegetables are also available.

Nenagh Ormond RFC Golf Classic

Nenagh Ormond RFC Golf Classic takes place on Friday, July 4th, at Nenagh Golf Club. 4 person team event, €120 per team.  Great prizes and entry includes food and refreshments on 11th tee.

Thurles Sarsfields Festival of Gaelic Sport 

The Thurles Sarsfields Festival of Gaelic Sport takes place from Friday July 4th to Saturday July 12th in association with Tipp FM, Tipperary County Council and Thurles Chamber of Commerce. On Friday July 4th Target Ball (bowling for the disabled) will take place from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Saturday 5th July sees a host of action with hurling, road bowling and ladies football. There will be an Irish Garth Brooks Experience Concert in association with Tipp FM on Saturday night.. The highlight of Sunday 6th July is the four mile road race/fun run and walkfrom 11.00am.

Bidding Friday at Twenty Six

Moneygall American Festival 

Moneygall will host its annual American Festival commencing on July 4th for three packed days of entertainment and events. The theme for the American Festival in 2014 will be American Barn Dance in The Big Red Barn.

Friday 4th July: The events will open in the Barn with “The Garth Brooks Experience” where the best dressed cowboy & cowgirl will be rewarded.

Saturday 5th July: Will begin with Arts & Crafts for the children followed by a “Wild West” themed family fun day. There will be buskers invited on to the streets that afternoon before returning to the Big Red Barn to be entertained by Irish Rock band “Bagatelle”.

Sunday 6th July: Will commence with a community walk along the new Rock of Loyer Loop before returning to the village for the Street Parade and Street Music by various live bands. The events will then close on the 2014 festival back in The Big Red Barn where you can dance the night away with Irish Show band “La Bamba”.

Tipperary Camogie Double Header in The Ragg

Tipperary Senior Camogie will take on Kilkenny in the All Ireland Championship on Saturday 5th July in The Ragg at 3.15pm.

This game will be preceded by Tipperary and Kildare in the All Ireland Intermediate Championship at 1.30pm.

Tipperary Double Header in Semple Stadium

Tipperary will take on Galway in Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday July 5th at 7.00pm in the 1st Round of the All Ireland Hurling Qualifiers.

This game will be preceded by Tipperary v Longford at 4.45pm in the All Ireland Football Qualifier.

The Wizard of Oz

Cloughjordan Cineclub and Sheelagh na Gig bookshop are presenting THE WIZARD OF OZ on Saturday, 5th July at 7pm in the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre. Tickets are free but must be collected in advance from Sheelagh na Gig bookshop.

Turas Trec 3 Phase Event at Pallas Stud

Turas trec (affiliated with Trec Ireland) are running a Full 3 phase competition on July 6th, from Pallas Stud, Carrigatoher, Nenagh. Including POR (orienteering) PTV (Obstacle course, all obstacles are optional) and COP (control of paces). The classes will start between 10 - 12 and will be from Level 1 (suitable for beginners) - Level 3. Riders can compete as individuals or in pairs. Entry fee is €20 for Level 1 and €30 for Levels 2 & 3. There will be stunning views of Lough Derg and the Silvermines. Everybody is welcome, children must compete with an adult partner. Nenagh Walking Club Comeragh Mountains Hike

Nenagh Walking Club will undertake a hike on Sunday 6th July to the Comeragh Mountains on the South Tipperary / Waterford border. There will be a choice of 2 walks, a B+/A Walk and a C/B Walk.

The B+/A walk will bring participants right up to the Knockanaffrin Ridge which is 755 mts high. This hike which shall be led by Tom Fallon will take approx 4 - 4.5 hours and will involve steep climbs and descents. Therefore, it is suitable for experienced hikers only and will commence from the Nire Valley car park at 11.30 am sharp.

The C/B walk is for moderate experienced walkers and will take in the Nire Valley to Sgilloge Lakes. This hike shall be led by John Hogan and will take approx 3 - 3.5 hours and will involve gradual height gain.  

Due to the distance to the Comeragh’s the group shall be leaving Nenagh early at 9.30 am from Kenyon St car park. If there are enough Members interested in going on Sunday next a bus will be organised to the Comeragh’s.  It is important you contact Maura Bowe on 086 8360621 to confirm your interest in order that the bus can be booked if there are sufficient numbers.

Tipperary Mud Run

Tipperary’s newest adventure challenge in beautiful parkland just outside Nenagh with 5K & 10K runs over 30 natural and constructed obstacles including banks, walls, drains, rivers, ponds, water slides, mud slides, tyres, straw bales and many many more. Beware though there will be lots of mud!

For the keenest athlete, the aspiring one, the fun runner, the power walker, the fittest family, the local team, the young, the old – all are catered for. Have you got what it takes physically and mentally to complete the Tipperary Mud Run challenge? This unique event will take place in Ballycommon on Sunday July 6th. Registration
