St Patrick’s Day

With St. Patrick's Day fast approaching preparations are well underway in Nenagh. This year is shaping up to be the towns biggest St. Patrick's Day parade in it’s history with over 80 floats. Last year Nenagh saw crowds of over 8000 spectators and this year is said to see even more people lining the streets. The parade will take place on Sunday, March 17th at 2:30pm.

This years parade will be a mix of vintage motors, marching bands, local community groups, and lots of creative floats. Organisers of the event are delighted to announce that festival frequent, Friendship Band will be around on the day. The band formed in the 70's and is made up of 30 brass band musicians from all over the country. Friendship Band is a regular to community festivals all over Europe, having played in England, Holland, France and Poland, as well as New York. We are delighted to welcome them to Nenagh this St. Patrick's Day. One of our very own locals was a member of the Friendship Band, the late Brendan Campbell, former musical director of the Nenagh CBS Band.

On the day there will be street performers, art displays, face-painting and games for the kids, as well as live music in pubs around town and an after party at Teach an Leinn, on what promises to be one of the best days out of 2013 for the all family. Nenagh will be as colourful as ever this St. Patrick's Day with flags and banners everywhere as well as shops getting in the festive spirit with colourful displays in their windows.

Last year we saw all aspects of Nenagh portrayed, with 83 entries taking part, we were greeted with music, dancing, art, vehicles of all sizes, sports, food, historical re-enactments, and seasonal spirit all making us even more excited for this years celebrations on St Patrick's Day.
The local parade committee is now appealing for volunteers for this years parade. There will be a range of events over the St Patrick's weekend, further details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
