Seven New Classes in Tipp Schools for Children with Special Needs

Seven new classes have been announced for children with special needs in Tipperary. Schools with the new classes include St Mary’s Junior School, Nenagh, Loughmore NS, SN Iosef Naofa, Corville Roscrea and CBS High School, Clonmel. With the addition of these seven new classes, there are now 27 special classes throughout County Tipperary specifically for children with autism or a specific speech and language disorder.

Noel Coonan TD has welcomed this news “Special classes in mainstream schools are vital for children and this is very positive news for Tipperary children, their families and school staff.”

In total, 118 new classes for children with special needs were announced today (Monday) by the National Council for Special Needs which are opening all around the country this month.

To coincide with this positive news, the National Council for Special Needs is also publishing a new booklet to help parents of children with special needs in Tipperary and nationwide choose the best school place for their child.

The booklet gives information on what supports are available in schools and identifies some key issues to guide and assist parents in their decision making. It also advises parents on the importance of advance planning for children with special educational needs to ensure that the necessary supports are in place when the child enters the school.
