The Portroe Gathering will take place from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September with an action packed agenda that has something for everyone. Organised by a voluntary committee supported by The Gathering Ireland, IPB Insurance and North Tipp Co. Council the working committee seen an opportunity to celebrate our community through the year of the gathering.
So much has changed in Portroe and it's surrounds in recent years that we are extremely proud of and the gathering weekend aims to showcase this throughout the weekend. We have an iconic landmark that is the millenium cross, to our rich history of quarrying in Killoran. Impressive developments have taken place in Portroe Hall, Killoran Community Centre and Portroe GAA grounds all led by volunteers in our parish. The beauty of Lough Derg and Garrykennedy are huge tourist attractions. Portroe village looks excellent through the diligent work of the local tidy towns.
Our local businesses are hugely important to the community, Killoran Slate Quarries, Ciss Ryans and Larkins in Garrykennedy, Spar, Zest Bistro and Seymours bar in Portroe village are behind most voluntary groups in the locality including this venture and the gathering is a unique opportunity to showcase them to visitors and increase footfall for them over the weekend.
I would encourage anyone with connections to Portroe to come along for the gathering. There is an action packed agenda for all the family.
