Polish film ‘Ida’ Screens at Arts Centre on Thursday

The Town Hall Cinema presents nominee for Best Foreign Language Oscar and BAFTA winning Best Foreign Language film  ‘Ida’ at Nenagh Arts Centre on this Thursday 19th February.

Set in Poland in 1962,  Anna is a novice, an orphan brought up by nuns in the convent. She has to see Wanda, her only living relative, before she takes her vows. Wanda reveals to Anna that she, Anna is Jewish. Anna travels into the Polish countryside with her aunt, seeking a connection to the family she never knew, her faith tested in this and other, more earthly ways. Anna goes in search of facts to her true identity, but finds a story that even she didn’t expect.

The film has been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography at the 87th Academy Awards. ‘One of the finest European films in recent memory. It haunted me,’ said the reviewer with the New York Times about the film.
David Denby of The New Yorker called Ida a ‘compact masterpiece’ and ‘by far, the best movie of the year’.

The film screens at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 19th. Adm. is €8 per person. Booking on 067 34400 or online at www.nenagharts.com
