Coming to Nenagh Arts Centre on the 5th of June is Woody Allen’s new movie. After ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’, ‘Midnight in Paris’, and ‘To Rome with Love’, director Allen returns to American soil with ‘Blue Jasmine’– a return that brings with it some of the sharp-edged wit that was perhaps absent from his overseas triptych.
Best Actress Oscar winner Cate Blanchett is outstanding as Jasmine, a down-and-out New York socialite who, left destitute by her cheating husband’s financial misdemeanours, moves in with her adopted sister and her blue-collar boyfriend in San Francisco. Oscillating between cool haughtiness, and pill-popping anxiety, Blanchett is a neurotic Allen heroine par excellence. Polished dialogue and serrating humour ensure this will go down as a favourite in the Allen canon.
The film shows on the big screen at 8 p.m. on Thursday 5th of June at Nenagh Arts Centre.
Admission is €8.
