Opening the Door to Low Carbon Living in Tipperary

The extreme weather events remind us that climate change will impact more and more on our lives, livelihoods and environment in the years to come. Learning to adapt to this challenge and reducing our carbon footprint will be essential to us all. On Sunday the 30th of March the Cloughjordan Ecovillage will welcome visitors to a day long event focused on low carbon living and what we can do to respond to a changing climate.

At the 'Open the Door to Low Carbon Carbon Living' event visitors will have an opportunity to hear presentations on the challenges we face and will include tours of different key Ecovillage attractions. Many of the residents will also be throwing open the doors of their low energy houses to share their experiences with participants.

The eco-neighbourhood now boasts over 100 residents, living in 53 high- performance green homes, over 20,000 newly planted trees and Ireland’s largest renewable-energy district-heating system. The Cloughjordan Wood-Fired Bakery is producing award-winning breads, while the WeCreate workspace offers unique business opportunities to eco-entrepreneurs. The community project won a Gold Award at the UN International Awards for Liveable Communities held in China last December.

This event is open to anyone who is interested in the issues being examined and does not require any prior level of knowledge. Registration is required, enquiries can be made at learning@thevillage.ie
