O'Connor's Shopping Centre on Martyr's Road having closed in May 2011 has been purchased by property developer Martin Healy from Two-Mile Borris outside Thurles. A master plan for the 5.5 acre site has been drawn up to allow for the development of retail units and a primary health care centre.
Mr Healy hopes to act on these plans as soon as possible and will liaise with Tipperary County Council so that the site's true potential can be maximised. It is estimated that up to 200 jobs could be created if the €8 million redevelopment project gets full planning.
