Nenagh’s Very Own Operation Transformation Leader

Laura McGrath made a decision in the New Year to be healthier and to lose a few pounds, with this in mind she began following RTE’s Operation Transformation Leader, Jennifer Bonus.  What she didn’t realise was the impact her journey was going to have. She initially sent out a message on Facebook to her friends about meeting for a walk and this set the ball rolling and it has since snowballed to a large Operation Transformation weekly walking/jogging group.

Laura’s group of walkers has grown steadily and now has almost one hundred people of all ages and fitness levels. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the Post Office in Cudville at 6.30pm. Laura is astounded at the amount of people showing up and is thrilled the impact it is having. She has also said that ‘’it’s great for people who may be afraid to go walking on their own on these dark evenings and is also a great way to meet new people”.

The group are now up to the 5K mark with some people even running and jogging it.

Laura does have some Health & Safety rules for the group which must be adhered to ensure the safety of everyone:

  1. All participants must wear a High Vis Jacket - No High Vis Jacket, No Walk
  2. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Anyone who can’t make the evening walks or if anyone is interested in a third walk, the group also meets on a Sunday Morning at the old O’Connor’s Shopping Centre on Martyrs Road at 11.30am.

Best of Luck Laura and Keep up the good work!
