Nenagh Éire Óg Club Notes 27th September 2021

Senior

Hard luck to our seniors who were defeated by Borrisoleigh in the Co Championship at the weekend - this defeat brings our interest in this year's championship to an end. Thanks to Brian Horgan and all his backroom team for the work they put in with this group and to all the players for their commitment throughout the year.

Junior

Best of luck to our Junior A hurlers who play Kilruane next weekend in the North semi-final. The game is fixed for Sunday at 4pm in Puckane.

Lotto

Our lotto jackpot reached €7,000 last Monday night. To be in with a chance to win please play online through the link on the club website

Tipperary Draw

This is the last week to be able to join the 2021/22 Tipperary draw - the first draw takes place on Friday night next, 1st Oct. This is a great draw with terrific prizes each month including cars, holidays and many cash prizes. And you will also be supporting Nenagh Éire Óg with up to 70% of each ticket sold by the club going back into the club. Anyone interested in joining the draw please contact Bartley Ryan at 086 735 8359.

Under 5

The season for our Under 5 group drew to a close on Saturday morning with a morning full of fun, games and laughter. The boys have shown great commitment over the last few months. They have picked up new hurling and football skills and have had plenty of fun along the way. We look forward to working with the boys next year again. Keep up the practice over the winter.

Under 7

Our Under 7 boys had a hurling blitz against Roscrea in Nenagh on a lovely sunny Saturday morning. All the boys had a great time and thanks to Roscrea for making the journey. Training continues on Saturday mornings 10-11am. As always we would love to see new faces.

Under 9

Over twenty Under 9 boys travelled to Castletroy on Saturday morning to play Monaleen. It was a fantastic effort from all the boys, thanks to Monaleen for hosting.

Hurling training continues Tuesday 6-7pm and Saturday 10-11am with football training on Wednesday 5.30-6.30pm. Great to see new boys joining who are always more than welcome.

Under 11

Under 11 hurlers travelled to Cloughjordan to play Kilruane on Saturday morning. It was a great morning of hurling and the boys put in huge performances. Well done to all.

Training continues this week on Tuesday evening. We look forward to using the new hurling wall and astro turf over the next few months. New members welcome, if anybody wishes to start they can contact us on 0874086439 or through the club social media pages.

Under 13

Our Under 13D hurlers won the North final last Wednesday evening against a very strong and fancied Newport team on a score line of 2-04 to 0-08 after extra time. This match was played at a very fast tempo with nothing separating the teams for most of the game. With three points down and time up, Nenagh scored a goal from virtually the last puck of the game which brought the match to extra time much to the delight of a huge home crowd. Five minutes per side of extra time ensued and the two sides went at it 'hammer and tongs' again. Newport were a point up with three minutes remaining when Charlie Talbot met the ball in mid flight to crash the ball to the back of the net. Heroic defending in the last minute and when the final whistle was blown jubilant scenes could be seen all over the field from players and supporters alike. Well done to all the panel on a fantastic and workmanlike performance as they never gave up. Many thanks to all the supporters who cheered on the boys as it was great to see so many from all the other age groups and their families, it made for a wonderful occasion for the club especially on home turf. The boys now face Fr. Sheehy’s in the Co Semi Final - this game is due to take place next Sat in Clogheen at 4pm.

Under 15

Our Under 15 hurlers wrapped up their year last Thursday with a defeat against Silvermines in the Plate semi final. The lads led by five points at half time after some excellent play from the team as a whole. The second half saw a reversal of fortunes and Silvermines ran out deserving winners despite a valiant effort from the Nenagh boys. Many thanks to all the panel for their efforts throughout the year. The management hope these boys stick together as they have a bright future ahead and with plenty of work on our new fantastic hurling wall facility over the winter there'll be positive days ahead.

Under 17

Following their great victory over Toomevara in the North final last week, the U17s will now face Carrick Swans in the Co Quarter Final. This game will take place next Sunday in Nenagh at 1pm. Please keep an eye on social media and the website for all fixtures.
