Sport / Club Notes

Nenagh Eire Og Camogie

Under 14: Our under fourteen team qualified for the county A final for the second year running after a great 3-08 to 1-01 victory over Newport Ballinahinch. The girls will be working hard over the next few weeks under the expert guidance of Noel Coffey, Maeve Maloney and Martin Ryan in a bid to retain the title we won for the very first time last year.

Junior B: Our Junior B team created their own piece of history on Sunday last after winning the league title in emphatic fashion against near neighbours and great rivals Portroe. This is the very first time in our history that we have won an adult league decider and great credit must good to the players themselves and their diligent and hard working management team of Paul Henry, Shane Connelly and Denise "Red Wellies" Morris. Goals came from Danielle Harrington (3), Louise Hickey, Holly O Brien (2), Aileen Duggan and Michelle Collins while at the other end captain fantastic Alice Darcy held the full back line together ably assisted by Mary Dillon, Rachel Maher and Zoey Gratton. Rookie goalkeeper Cliona Curran had an outstanding game between the sticks. Ciara McGrath led by example at midfield assisted by Alanna Morris. We look forward with confidence to the Munster league which will be starting in early June.

Bereavement: We wish to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Ms Maura Plouffe who passed away last week. Maura was an extremely talented camogie player in her youth and played for the old Nenagh Camogie Club as well as representing both Tipperary and Dublin at senior championship level.

Feile: On May 31st in The Hibernian Inn the club are hosting a Come Dine With Me fundraiser to help secure funds for our Feile team who have qualified for the All Ireland finals for the very first time. Celebrity chef for the event is former Munster and Irish rugby player Trevor Hogan and tickets are thirty euro for two or twenty euro for one, available from any committee member. The team are also seeking sponsorship from businesses and private individuals. If you are interested in supporting the team please contact any committee member.
