Mini & Juvenile Rugby at Nenagh Ormond

We are six weeks into the new season and training is progressing very well. New players (boys and girls) are always welcome at any age.

It is our aim at NORFC that all boys and girls, whatever their age, social, religious or ethnic background, who come to rugby sessions enjoy themselves and develop their individual, unit and team skills through progressive, purposeful, enjoyable and safe activities, with the objective of learning, understanding and playing the game of Rugby and achieving their full potential. We also try to promote Rugby’s Core Values Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship and encouraging fair play, good sportsmanship and a good standard of behavior, both on and off the field.

Nenagh Ormond R.F.C. are committed to following the I.R.F.U. Long Term Player Development model to assist in improving a player’s technical, tactical, physical, mental, personal and lifestyle capacities. While not all players will end up being the next Donnacha Ryan, we are keen to ensure that participation in rugby in Nenagh Ormond is fun and rewarding for all our players at all levels.

Young players can start playing rugby at age six (under 7.) This is known as Leprechaun Rugby. Leprechaun Rugby is a fast and exciting modified-contact game of 'touch' rugby designed to assist general physical development. The non-tackling, soft-contact nature of Leprechaun Rugby aims to encourage the positive development of running and handling skills. The emphasis is very much on fun and enjoyment for all.

Tackling is introduced at under 8 level. The emphasis is on teaching the basics of contact in a manner that is safe and gives players confidence. Skills such as running, evasion and passing are further developed at this age. Further development takes place as players move up the ranks, but the option is there to take up rugby at any age. The aforementioned Donnacha Ryan of Munster and Ireland actually started playing rugby with Nenagh Ormond at age 17.

Please feel free to contact any of our coaches or come along to one of our training sessions to see for yourself what we are about.
