Looking After Your Hair on Your Summer Holidays

How exactly should you look after your Hair on your Summer Holidays?

It s that time of year again and we’re all jetting off to the Sun but unfortunately all this sun and splashing around can wreak havoc on your hair. While most people would definitely not leave their apartment or hotel room without a bottle of Sun Block, do any of you remember to bring any protection for your hair? Not too many? No matter how glossy and healthy your hair is, the effects of the Sun, Sea and Sand can leave it dried out and dull when exposed to the elements without any protection.

Well that’s why we at Katanya’s Hair Studio want to inform you on what steps you can take to ensure that your luscious locks remain long after your Sun tan has disappeared.

Steps to Maintain Luscious Locks

  • Colour: If you're getting your Highlights done before you head off, be sure to ask your hairdresser to make the highlights 2 to 3 shades darker than normal. The sun will naturally lift your hair colour those extra shades.
  • Cut: Book an appointment to have your hair cut before you go away, even if it's only for a trim. This will ensure that any dry or split ends which are especially prone to damage will be removed before you spend time in the sun.
  • Condition: It's highly recommended that you use a good conditioner for a few weeks before you leave for your holidays and to keep up this practise while you’re away. We recommend the Redken Uniq ONE Leave In Conditioner, which we in have available in store in Limited Edition Coconut (to help you get into that island feeling)
  • Cover up: Try to keep your hair covered up as much as you can when you are out in the sun - ideally with some kind of scarf or hat. The sun's UV rays can damage your hair as well as your skin, especially if it is coloured or highlighted.
  • Rinse: Rinse your hair with fresh water after swimming in the sea or pool, as both salt and chlorine dry hair out. You can always use bottled water if there are no showering facilities nearby.
  • Wax: Hair that gets frizzy in a warm, humid climate you should use a good water soluble styling wax or cream to style your hair into soft curls. You should avoid using hair striaghtners as this will only dry your hair out further.
  • Plait it: The season's trend for plaits is good news for holiday hair. Plaits are perfect for when you're sitting on the beach or relaxing by the pool. They're also really easy to do and great for keeping your hair under control.

Now that your equipped with all the secrets to maintain the perfect mane, have a ball on your Holidays....
