Nenagh-born Fashion designer Laoise Carey was recently awarded the “Designer to Watch” award by Shelly Corkery, Fashion Director at Brown Thomas, as one of Ireland’s most promising young designers. A graduate of NCAD she was presented with a bursary and mentorship for her collection Eidolon which used discarded textiles and forgotten crafts to produce a contemporary collection of womenswear.
Laoise creatively used flowery fabric bought from McCarney's Antiques to assemble part of her collection -- which also includes a 'basket bra' made from willows her dad pulled and sandals made from reeds pulled from Lough Derg!
