Monday 12th October 2015- From stand up comedy to puppet shows, music making to magic, Spleodar Children’s Festival has a fun filled programme of events for young people this October. Taking place Monday 26th to Saturday 31st October, this is the 15th year of the community arts festival, which celebrates children and families through a mix of workshops, comedy, music, dance and art.

To kick off the beginning of the festival, on Monday 26th October, We have The Speks, a six piece trad band who perform hand-clapping, toe-tapping, hearty-laughing show that will have children and their parents jumping in their seats. Praised by Newstalk’s Tom Dunne for its fantastic, magical songs’ the Speks present a lively show of nursery rhymes and sing a long songs set to acoustic Irish music.

On Tuesday 27th October, Pitschi-The Kitten with Dreams conjures up forty- five minutes of pure magic for young children. This original production uses a rich mix of story-telling, physical theatre, music and song to tell the story of a kitten that learns to be happy by being exactly what she is. This is a tale that has delighted generations of children – and cat lovers – all around the world! Following the show, children will be invited to meet and play with the animal characters.

Comedy is the name of the game on Wednesday 28th October, when Punch Lion Events presents a family friendly stand-up comedy show. MC’d by Andrew Stanley from Dublin’s Laughter Lounge, top comedians from the comedy circuit will have everyone giggling and laughing out loud.

On Friday 30th October, Joanne Quinn and Shane McKenna invite children on a theatrical adventure using an exciting new way of making music with shapes, colours and animation. Specially commissioned for Spleodar, the Hairy and the Fairy, will have its audience, singing, playing and enjoying fun, live music making. Everyone gets and instrument and everyone joins in.

Later on that evening of the 30th, Monsieur Gusto, the world’s most amazing Juggling Escapologist sensation, has a show that you just can’t miss! Not only does he Juggle Fire Torches, Toilet Plungers and Water Balloons while Balancing on top of people but he also manages to play the Drums while Juggling, Balance Umbrellas on his forehead and slide down the front of a Three Meter High Tripod without tearing his pants.

The week finishes on a high on Sat 31st October with a special screening of Song of the Sea, the Academy Award nominated Irish animation feature.
