Great News for Locals Who Now Reside in Australia

Australia-based Irish entrepreneur Eamon Eastwood, whose company Taste Ireland distributes Irish foods down under, has signed a deal with Australian retail giant Coles to stock Irish products.

A range of Irish favourites including Tayto crisps, Barry's Tea and Club Orange will now be available in 600 of Coles store's across Australia.

In October 2011, Taste Ireland agreed a lucrative contract to supply Woolworths, which controls around 30 per cent of Australia's supermarket business. This latest Coles deal will bring the number of Australian stores now stocking the company's iconic Irish food brands to 1,000, with Woolworths and Coles, between them, accounting for over 70pc of the Australian retail market.

Taste Ireland currently employs over a dozen staff in Sydney, which is likely to grow considerably as the Coles contract rolls-out, Eastwood says. "What started as a niche boutique style operation in 2004 has now flourished into a scalable and thriving enterprise". The contract will represent retail turnover of more than €2 million in year one, and will see Taste Ireland turnover increase by 60 per cent.

Our friends and relations in Australia can now feel at home and experience a "wee bit" of Ireland when shopping in their local stores.
