Nenagh Éire Óg

AGM 2012: The Annual General Meeting took place at the Complex on Thursday night, December 13th. Those present at the meeting received detailed and well-presented reports on the clubs activities during the last twelve months from club secretary Declan Bailey, juvenile secretary Anne Kennedy and coaching & development officer Phil Hennessy. Club treasurer Séamus Cleary gave a detailed breakdown of the club’s finances which shows the club to be in a solid financial position. In his address club chairman Jim Nagle reflected on the year’s activities and detailed the progress made in 2012 while setting out the key priorities for 2013 and beyond. The overall proceedings were conducted with the minimum of fuss with very good debate and discussion on a number of important issues. All current officers were re-elected to serve the club for 2013.

Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie

Thank you to both Dunnes Stores and Tesco for allowing us the opportunity to raise funds through bag packing recently. This is a crucial fundraiser for the club. We also wish to thank the volunteers who helped out and those who generously donated money.

St Mary’s Nenagh qualified for the senior Munster final by beating Coachford of Cork in Ballyea 7-5 to 0-3 recently while the junior team also qualified for the Munster final after defeating Coláiste Choilm Cork 4-9 to 3-03. Well done girls and thanks to Mr Dulea and all the teachers in St Mary’s for volunteering their time to promote Camogie. Check our website and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/nenagheireog) for details of these fixtures.

Hard luck to Catriona O’Connor who was a member of the DIT panel defeated by DCU in the Purcell Cup.

Our AGM was held recently and the following positions were filled - chairperson: Denise Morris, treasurer: Liam McGrath, secretaries: Catriona Morris and Catherine Kennedy, PRO Enda O’Sullivan and Séamie Morris, child welfare officer: Mark Hassett. A special thank you goes to out-going secretary Liz Duggan for all her hard work this year.

We want to wish Martin Ryan all the best in 2013 as the Tipperary under-15 manager while Conor Ryan takes over the Tipperary senior and intermediate job. Pat Sheridan and Ger Morris are on the Tipperary Committee this year. It’s great to see so many from the club getting involved at county level.

We recently had a very successful medal presentation in the club house. The medals were presented by All-Ireland winning minor hurler Barry Heffernan and our Camogie players on various Tipperary panels Ciara McGrath, Danielle Harrington, Aileen Duggan and Alanna Morris. Medals were presented to our under-12, under-13, under-14, under-15 and under-16 teams as well as our under-131/2 team who won the Tipperary and Munster Community Games title and our Junior B team who won the Munster Junior League Plate final. Every player in the club from under-12 to adult won at least one medal this year which is testament to the huge work and tremendous talent in the club. Thanks to all the players and mentors for everything this year.

The club would like to express our sympathy to Denise Morris and the Morris family following the death of her uncle Paddy Salmon.

Kilruane MacDonagh’s

Under-21: congratulations to the under-21 hurlers who brought the title to the parish for the eleventh time with a hard earned 0-14 to 0-11 victory against Toomevara in Newport. A good first half saw them take a five-point interval lead to the dressing groom. Crucially MacDonagh’s extended the gap to seven in the third quarter before the expected rally from Toomevara materialised. The lead was cut to two, but the ship was steadied in the final minutes and MacDonagh’s held out for victory. Well done to the entire panel and the management team of John Hyland, Paddy Williams and John Quinlan. Thanks to Toomevara who proved to be worthy foes and were gracious in defeat.

The Newport club is to be complimented on the splendid arrangements for the final with Lacken Park in superb condition. In the county semi-final a very formidable Thurles side will provide the opposition in Templemore. With players involved in examinations on Saturday it is expected that this game will take place on Sunday. Check fixtures for confirmation.

Football Convention: Congratulations to Joe Hannigan from Shannon Rovers who was elected chairman of the Tipperary Football Board. Pat Murphy, Jimmy Cahill and Mark Spain represented the MacDonagh’s club at the convention.

Juvenile AGM: the AGM of the juvenile club takes place in the clubroom on Friday, January 11th. All interested in the promotion of juvenile games in the parish are asked to attend.

Juvenile Presentation: the presentation of medals to the under-10 hurlers, under-12 A footballers, under-12 B hurlers and the under-14 hurlers will take place in the Thomas MacDonagh Complex on Friday, January 18th at 8pm. Guest of honour on the night will be All-Ireland minor medallist Jack Peters. We will be looking for the assistance of parents in supplying sandwiches, cakes buns etc. We have received tremendous support from parents during 2012 and we anticipate the usual generous response on this occasion. More details later.

Membership: Membership fees remain the same as last year: under-6, under-8, under-10 and under-12 €10; under-14, under-16 and under-18 €20 and non-playing adults €20. There is a special membership package for all players over minor. All adult players will be briefed on this before the start of the playing season.

County Convention: Len Gaynor and Gilbert Williams represented the club at the County Convention in Thurles.

Monster Sale of Work & Auction: it’s full steam ahead for the Monster Sale of Work & Auction in the Thomas MacDonagh Complex on Sunday, January 27th. There has been a very positive response and we have received pledges of timber, turf, briquettes, farm produce, fodder, vouchers, cakes, buns, beer, spirits, electrical goods, furniture etc. All donations are very much appreciated and will be gratefully acknowledged. Club members, supporters and players are also asked to canvass their friends, neighbours and business acquaintances for any item big or small that can be sold or auctioned. Len Gaynor (086 311 0657) is co-ordinating the timber operations so if you can donate a tree or a load of timber you can make contact with Len. On the day of the Sale of Work tea will be served, the ever popular Wheel of Fortune will be in operation and there will also be a raffle for a trailer of timber.

Christmas Greetings: The club would like to wish all players, members and supporters a peaceful Christmas. We extend particular good wishes to all our parish exiles. Some of our Australian contingent is home for the festive season and we hope that they enjoy their stay. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal followers for their unstinting support and we look forward to seeing you all at the county under-21 semi-final in Templemore.

Kilruane MacDonagh’s Camogie

Toomevara Camogie

Adjourned AGM: on Wednesday, December 12th a very successful adjourned AGM was held with all positions in terms of management and officers being filled. Out-going chairperson Nora Dwan and vice-chairperson Anne Gleeson were thanked for the enormous contribution they have made as officers and coaches in the club.

Managers and coaches were also thanked for their work with all teams this year - the highlight of which was the under-16 team managed by Noelle Kennedy capturing the Pan Celtic Title in Carlow in impressive style. Whilst county titles eluded teams all played in the A grade in county competitions with all teams making a final or semi-final place. Regardless of lady luck not being on our side it is still a very positive reflection of standards in the club that the teams are reaching the latter stages of their various competitions. The commitment and dedication of players and coaches is to be commended and we would hope that all are looking forward to the forthcoming season.

Officers in place for 2013 are - chairperson: Suzanne Meagher, vice-chairperson: Trisha Cleere, secretary: Teresa Ryan, assistant secretary: Mary Bourke, Fiona Kenneally, treasurer: Margaret Young, assistant treasurer: Sharon Young, PRO: Trisha Cleere, registrar: Anne Gleeson, child welfare officer: Margaret Kennedy.
