Funding of €489,000 for 37 Vacant Tipperary Housing Units

It was announced yesterday by Junior Minister Jan O’Sullivan that the Government has allocated €15 million to bring 1,008 vacant local authority properties back into use.

This figure includes an allocation of €489,000 to bring back into use 37 vacant local authority units in Tipperary.

Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the news, saying "We want to increase the number of social homes in Tipperary. Today's allocation will refurbish 37 units and transform them into family homes. Importantly, the investment will also create local jobs in the construction sector; and will remove boarded-up houses from communities.”

The investment will create and sustain hundreds of jobs in the construction sector. In framing proposals local authorities were encouraged to examine the role that community based organisations who recruit, train and engage long-term unemployed people can play in the refurbishment programme.
