Fourteen things to do and see in Nenagh this Christmas!

Santa’s Grotto

Santa’s Grotto returns to Quintin’s Way this weekend - come and visit Santa, collect your present and get your photo taken for just €10. All proceeds will go toward Nenagh AFC. Opening times: Friday 4-7pm, Saturday 12-5pm and Sunday 2-5pm.

High Society

Take a break from the Christmas rush with the special afternoon screening of the movie High Society - the classic film featuring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly will screen at Nenagh Arts Centre at 3pm on Saturday, December 22nd. This event is presented by the Nenagh Silent Film Festival committee and the Nenagh Arts Centre. Tickets are priced at €7 and will be available on the door. Christmas walking tour of Nenagh

Nenagh Walking Tours will be conducting a historical walking tour of Nenagh at 12 noon on Saturday, December 22nd and Sunday, December 23rd. The tour starts outside the Nenagh Arts Centre and patrons are advised to book now as places on the tours are limited. Nenagh CBS Christmas Market

Transition Year students at Nenagh CBS will host a Christmas Market in the school hall on Sunday, December 23rd - the Christmas Market will start at 10am and run until 6pm. There will be plenty of gifts, crafts, food, treats and a fun day to be had by all the family. The Christmas Market will also feature a visit from members of the All-Ireland winning Tipperary minor hurling team along with the Irish Press Cup and the event organisers also hope that Santa might take a break from his busy schedule to make an appearance! 

All proceeds from the event will go toward the North Tipperary Hospice and the Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin. Admission to the Christmas Market is free. 

Christmas Day Swim

The Christmas Day Swim (11am to 12 noon) at Youghal Quay will take place for the 21st consecutive year with all monies raised going toward the Nenagh branch of the Rape Crisis Centre Midwest, the Infusion Centre at Nenagh Hospital and a school project in Tanzania. Last year the swim raised €20,400.

Christmas Morning Run

The annual Christmas morning run sets out from the Nenagh CBS grounds at 11am on Christmas Day. The 3.5-mile route will take participants out the Borrisokane Road, turning left at Ballyvillane, through Coolaholiga, crossing the N52 bypass and returning to the Nenagh CBS via Dromin, Church Road and Summerhill. Participants are invited to run, walk or cycle the route. A bucket collection will take place on the day with all proceeds going to the Nenagh Day Care Centre. There will also be an open draw for spot prizes. One hundred and thirty took part in last year’s run.

Meanwhile St Joseph’s CBS Secondary School Parents Association are organising a 10km run and a 3km walk on Sunday, January 6th with a start time of 2pm. Registration takes place from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and the entrance fee is €15 for runners and €5 for walkers. The event starts and finishes at Nenagh CBS and represents to great opportunity to shake off those Christmas blues.

Camera Club Exhibition

Esker Camera Club, which was formed two years ago when Nenagh Camera Club and Portroe Camera Club combined, is hosting an exhibition in Nenagh Library which will run until the end of the month. Club discussions cover a variety of subjects from composition to computer software while the exhibition features the work of the club’s members. The club welcomes new members and anyone interested in photography - contact Pat Ryan on 087 053 7828 for more information.

Gaelic Games

On Saturday (1.30pm) in Templetouhy Kildangan take on Upperchurch-Drombane in a county under-21B hurling semi-final. Kilruane MacDonagh’s face Thurles Sarsfields in their under-21A county semi-final at 1.30pm on Sunday in Templemore - this contest will spark memories of the 2011 county final which Kilruane won after a wonderful contest with the Mid champions.

Meanwhile two divisional finals will take place in north Tipperary this weekend. On Friday night Ballingarry will host the junior A football final between Borrisokane and Shannon Rovers while on Sunday (at a venue to be confirmed) Ballinahinch take on Borrisokane (1.30pm) in the junior C hurling final.

Rugby

On Saturday the Nenagh Ormond senior squad make the journey to Musgrave Park (2pm) to face Dolphin in the final of the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate. All support appreciated and a bus to the game for supporters has been organised - please contact Ger on 086 252 7212 for more information.

Munster are in Rabo Direct Pro 12 action this weekend when they travel to the Sportsground in Galway to take on Connacht on Saturday (5.15pm). The following weekend Munster will host Ulster at Thomond Park on Saturday, December 29th (5.30pm).
