Eight things to do in Nenagh this week!

Nenagh Walking Club

On Tuesday, January 1st Nenagh Walking Club will host a special commemorative walk from St Odrain’s Churchyard in Latteragh (11.40am). Walkers will require boots, a walking stick and appropriate clothing for a walk which is expected to last three hours. The event will start and finish at St Odrain’s Churchyard.

Nenagh Rail Partnership

The Nenagh Rail Partnership are running trains to Limerick on Ice on Wednesday, January 2nd and on Thursday, January 3rd. The event proved a wonderful success last year and those interested in attending this time around are asked to contact Nenagh Town Councillor Virginia O’Dowd on 086 818 5520.

Club Rince Set Dancing Workshop

The annual Club Rince Set Dancing Workshop will take place in the Abbey Court Hotel from January 4th to the 6th. On Friday the 4th a céilí will take place with Tom McCarthy and Michael Egan from 9pm. On Saturday the 5th Pat Murphy will host a workshop from 10.30am to 5.30pm while Ger Murphy and Ken Cotter will host a céilí that evening at 9pm. Pat Murphy will host another workshop on Sunday (11am to 1pm) while on Sunday afternoon (2.30pm to 5.30pm) a céilí will feature the Glenside Céilí Band.

St Joseph’s CBS

The St Joseph’s CBS secondary school parents association are organising a 10K run and 3K walk on Sunday, January 6th. The event is scheduled to start at 2pm, but participants may register from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. The entrance fee is €15 for runners and €5 for walkers. The event will start and finish at Nenagh CBS.

Keith Barry

On January 3rd renowned Irish hypnotist and magician Keith Barry will feature at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh. It has been reported that tickets for this event are now sold out so we hope you purchased your ticket in good time for this terrific event.

Rugby

Munster Rugby has nominated the RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Ulster on Saturday, December 29th as their official “Charity Match”. To support this initiative supporters are asked to purchase a match programme for €5 on the night and Munster Rugby will donate €1 for each programme sold to its three nominated charities along with a fixed donation to Adapt Domesic Abuse Services, Clare Crusaders and Jigsaw Kerry. At the match an exclusive signed “Charity Match Munster Jersey” will be presented to representatives of all three charities. Tickets are priced as follows: Terrace €20, Cat A €40, Cat B €30, Family €40. Ulster are the runaway leaders of the RaboDirect PRO12 and the game will kick off on Saturday at 5.30pm. Last weekend Munster battled their way toward a gritty 16-12 win over Connacht at the Sportsground.

Hurling

Although neither decider features a team from north Tipperary this weekend’s county under-21A and B hurling finals will catch the eye of GAA enthusiasts. On Saturday in the Ragg at 12 noon the under-21B final features Upperchurch-Drombane and Golden-Kilfeacle. Upperchurch-Drombane beat north champions Kildangan last weekend and will be favoured to win this one while on Sunday Clonoulty-Rossmore will have it all to do to beat Thurles Sarsfields in the under-21A decider. The A final takes place in Boherlahan (1.30pm) and with Clonoulty-Rossmore chasing a first-ever under-21A title a large crowd is expected to attend.
