Draw Out – Urban Exhibitionists

Draw Out – Urban Exhibitionists
Venue; Pound Road, Nenagh
Artist: DMC (Dermot McConaghy)
Title: The Fiddler’s Light

Draw Out, in Partnership with Tipperary County Council is excited to announce the unveiling of Nenagh’s first Street Art mural.

Draw out is a model of Urban regeneration that uses the most creative resources to reinvent space both visually and functionally. Draw Out has created countless works throughout the country, in particular Limerick and is delighted to be working closely with Nenagh Municipal District and the Tipperary Arts Office to bring some colour to the town.

This project has seen DMC masterfully create this awe inspiring contemporary painting. DMC is one of Irelands most renowned contemporary Urban Artists and has painted across the country as well as abroad. He has transformed this gable end into an impressive modern artwork that winks at the past and feels nostalgic and familiar like a family photograph.

This piece was developed from initial discussion with the Tipperary Arts Office and Nenagh Municipal District who initiated the project and contracted Draw Out to produce and manage the work.   Working with a lively youth group from Nenagh Community Training Centre, Dermot, Creative director Catherine and the group expanded on the theme and researched what in essence Nenagh represented to them. ‘The group have been such a wonderful addition to this project, bringing boundless energy, laughter and lots of inspiration.’ says Catherine O’Halloran. ‘We truly hope that we get the opportunity to work with them again because they all have such insightful contributions to make and I’m sure we could find a few painters in there too. It’s always exciting to work in a new town, particularly when it’s the first urban Art piece and see the reaction of local residents, I would love to work with Tipperary Arts Office on developing this further.’

DMC has found his experience of Nenagh to be enriching and enlightening. ‘Everyone here has been amazing, particularly Nora Butler and Eileen O’Brien, two ladies that have given me so much support and knowledge about the history of the references I’ve used here. I can’t thank them enough’.

Draw Out’s vision is to work with urban planners on ambitious projects to create dynamic examples of the highest quality art work that can live 'outside'. When this happens, we can then begin
to relate with the environment in a whole new way that is refreshing and invigorating.
