Best Foreign Language Oscar Winner Screens at Nenagh Arts Centre

Winner of the Best Foreign Language film at the Oscars, Paulo Sorrentino’s film ‘The Great Beauty’ is a ribald, humorous drama about a man coming to terms with his older years.

Set in modern day Rome, ‘The Great Beauty’ highlights Jep Gambardela, a journalist and self-ordained ‘king’ of high society. Jep is now in the autumn of his life, and taking stock of his colourful past. Visually impressive, the Oscar winner gently probes questions of personal identity, drawing parallels between Jep’s possible paths as a young man and the path he chose. Ultimately, the effect of the film is uplifting, never failing to show the sublime and ridiculous in equal measure.

With a nod to his directorial forebears such as Frederico Fellini, Sorrentino’s film captures the verve of both an individual’s life and that of a city. The film screens at 8 p.m. on Thursday 1st of May at Nenagh Arts Centre. Adm. is €8
