4,000 New Cases of Dementia Each Year

In Ireland almost 4,000 new cases of dementia arise every year. Ashlawn Nursing Home has a dedicated unit for residents who have a dementia related illness, including Alzheimers Disease. Dementia is a term which describes a range of conditions which cause damage to the brain. This damage affects memory, thinking, language and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Alzheimers disease is the most common  and well known cause of dementia. Early signs and symptoms of dementia can have particular symptoms linked to it. Some general and early signs are memory loss, problems with language, changes in mood and behaviour and becoming confused.

At Ashlawn House Nursing Home we cater for residents on a long term basis with this illness, we provide a separate unit so these residents and their family members have some privacy and space. Some of our residents go to The Watermans Lodge which is a daycare facility in Ballina, Killaloe which is run by the Alzheimers Society of Ireland. We recently held our Alzheimers tea day which was a big success in conjunction with the North Tipp Wheelers. All funds raised contribute to the daily running costs of the Alzheimers Society.

We welcome the newly appointed CEO of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland Gerry Martin who says he is "very fortunate to take on the role at a time when the organization is in an extremely healthy place".

At Ashlawn House we are committed to providing the highest standard of care and support to all our residents, in a homely environment. All enquiries welcome, please feel free to contact us on the number provided to arrange a visit.
