17 Tips to Consider When Planning Your Wedding

Christmas is a great time for couples to get engaged and congratulations to you if you did. It’s an amazing time in your lives but can also be quite daunting with hundreds of decisions to be made. So to help you on your way we have compiled a list of top tips from wedding suppliers around Nenagh to help you make some of those decisions.

  1. When choosing a venue, meet the wedding coordinator and get the full cost. Find out if there is an all inclusive package, are there any hidden extras, are they adaptable to every wedding and theme.  Imelda, Wedding Coordinator, Abbey Court Hotel

  2. Make sure to get at least one if not two hair trials before your big day, to ensure you are comfortable with your chosen hairstyle and don’t be afraid to experiment with some hair pieces, these can add thickness and texture to your hair to get the desired effect.  Katanya, Katanya’s Hair Studio

  3. The Wedding Venue and Team plays a huge role in your wedding experience, the more experienced, professional and approachable they are the better you will feel throughout the whole experience. Imelda, Wedding Coordinator, Abbey Court Hotel

  4. I would always recommend any bride to have a microdermabrasion facial well in advance of the big day; this will remove any dead skin and leave your skin glowing. Siobhan, Solitude Spa

  5. The one thing that I always notice is that when people book a wedding videographer they always request that I won’t be 'In their face all day'. The reality could not be further from the truth! The one thing I always tell the bride and groom on the morning of the wedding is ' Just ignore me for the day '. This helps people just to get on with the day and the video turns out as a wonderful documentary of the day, as it happened, naturally. Robin Wallace, Celtic Video

  6. In the 4-6 months running up to the wedding, we would always advise our brides to be to grow their hair out and treat it with Moroccan Oil to replenish any oils lost through years of styling. Edel, Edel’s Hair Studio

  7. Ask your florist whether the flowers that you like are in season at the time of your wedding, if they are not available, make sure your florist shows you ones that will give you a similar desired effect. Elizabeth Rose Florist

  8. When considering the suit attire, try to keep it simple and classic, while your Wedding will only last one day the pictures will last forever. Brendan, Galvin’s for Men

  9. Buying your wedding ring is an important step, not only is a wedding ring a symbol of eternal love but you are likely to wear your wedding ring for the rest of your life. There are three major points to consider; your budget, the style and the metal. Eoin, Breo Jewellers

  10. If your nails are on the brittle side we would recommend trying out different options beforehand. If you want to maintain your natural nail, get shellac/gelish on your nails so that they will be protected and have a chance to grow. Do this about 6 weeks before your wedding and every two weeks, if you want to wear false nails, try out acrylic/gel maybe for the hen so you can get the feel of them. Lynn, Elegance Beauty

  11. When choosing your Photographer your main focus should not be on the Price but two other important aspects; Do you like the style of your Photographer and can you get on with them as they are a major part of your day. Tom Doherty, Photographer

  12. When you have your budget set for your venue, meet with their Coordinator and when discussing menus and prices stick to your budget. The Thatched Cottage

  13. When looking for a headpiece for your wedding gown, always bring a swatch of the material with you or an image of your dress to ensure that your chosen headpiece will compliment it. Patricia, New Moon

  14. Ensure that both the Bride and Groom come in together early to go through the numerous styles of Suits that are available and get the wedding party in as soon as possible for measurements. Jim, Jim McLoughney Menswear

  15. Looking stylish the day after your wedding is just as important, comfort is key after spending the previous night on the dance floor. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous with colour either. Majella, Sixty Three

  16. For anyone that is considering their Wedding Cake we would advise them to do their homework, take a look on the internet or magazines of images of what they like and tease these ideas out with your baker. Collins Bakery

  17. It’s critical that your bouquet goes with your dress and not just your venue. Take as much inspiration as possible to your florist such as swatches of material, images of your dress and colours. Elizabeth Rose Florist
