12 Things To Do In and Around Nenagh This Weekend

Thurles Sarsfields International Hurling Festival 2013

Thurles Sarsfields will hold their third annual International hurling festival featuring hurling, camogie, road bowling and camán abú this week. The festival starts on Wednesday evening, July 10th, when the first rounds of Camán Abú take place.

Friday July 12th is a big day with “Target Ball” for special needs starting at 11am. The second Annual Interprovincial Road Bowling Championship takes place at 4pm, venue – Cormackstown Road. Thurles Sarsfields U12 Ladies Footballers take on Templemore in the outside field at 6pm.  The finals of the Camán Abú take place at 7pm at the same venue. There is a welcoming social at 9.30pm in the Sarsfields Centre, with music by “The Monks” a group specially chosen for the occasion.  All the events are free.

On Saturday July 13 in Dr Morris Park and in the outside pitch the the International Hurling Tournament for the Tom Semple Cup goes on all day. The Camogie takes place in St Patrick’s College grounds for the Helen O’Mara Cup again taking place throughout the day. After the finals we will have a celebration social for all in the Sarsfields club house.  The music is by “Silver Dollar” and again all entertainment is free. Thurles Sarsfields extends a warm welcome to all and hope it will be a great weekend of sport, music and a wonderful Gathering.

Young Nenagh Players present DNA

The Young Nenagh Players present Dennis Kelly’s “DNA” directed by Jenny Bracken from July 10th - 13th at the Nenagh Arts Centre. Curtains up at 8.30 pm. This production is not suitable for children and contains some strong language.

Silvermines Hospice 10K Walk/Run

The annual Silvermines Hospice 10K Walk/Run will take place on Friday July 12th. This is the 5th event of its kind which to date has raised almost €19,000 for the Nenagh Branch of the North Tipp Hospice. This year is open to men, women and children (accompanied by an adult along the route). Also there is an optional 4K route for those who wish to take part but would prefer a shorter distance. All participants to meet in the Silvermines Hall from 6.30pm, walk starting at 7.00pm. There will be no registration fee this year, donation on entry. After the walk refreshments will be provided in Hickeys Bar, Silvermines, followed by music and dancing. This years entertainment is been provided free of charge by local artist Marie Quigley. There will be a raffle on the night with super prizes all sponsored by local businesses.

So get your walking shoes out and come out and enjoy the fun!

The 4 of Us will perform live at The Kenyon K2 on Friday 12th July. Tickets €10.

Practical First Aid Course

The Nenagh Branch of the Irish Red Cross are running a Practical First Aid Course on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July in the Pastoral Centre, Church Road, Nenagh from 10.00am until 5.00pm each day, at a cost of €80. Call or text 083 1423062 if interested.

Traditional storyteller Ruth Marshall visits Cloughjordan

On Saturday 13th July, Ruth will be storytelling at two different events. At noon, she will be at The Makery on Main Street with storytelling and crafts for children. At 7.30pm, she will be launching Clare Folk Tales at Sheelagh na Gig bookshop and recounting tales from Clare and elsewhere. These events are free.

Nenagh Celtic’s Family Fun Day

Nenagh Celtic’s Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday 13th July from 2.00pm to 6.00pm at Nenagh Vocational School (The Tech). Included on the day is Celebrity Dunk Tank, guards Stewart Beattie & Johnny Madigan, referee Alec McCormack, proprietor Peter Ryan, bookie Darren Sheridan and teacher Gary Scully have all volunteered to be placed in the firing line.

Other events include a barbeque, bouncy castle, face painting, tug-of-war, balloon modelling, sack race, kids penalty shoot out and an U12 match versus Rearcross FC. All are welcome and donations at the gate.

Historical Walking Tour of Nenagh

Kevin Whelan will be conducting Historical Walking Tours of Nenagh every Saturday evening throughout the Summer, starting at 7.00pm outside the Nenagh Arts Centre.

Pat Holland Performs in The Thatched Cottage

The Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon will have music by Pat Holland in the bar on Saturday July 13th.

Fancy Dress Disco In Aid of Relay for Life

Relay for Life Fundraiser for the Kilbarron Red Devils team. 70’s 80’s fancy dress disco in Hannigan’s Bar Kilbarron, on Saturday 13th July at 9.00pm. Generous spot prizes, Donations on the night.

Come along in your favourite 70’s or 80’s costume for a great nights entertainment and support this worthy cause!! Dj, food and much more on the night.

Nenagh Classic Car Club Meet

Nenagh Classic Car Club will meet in Dromineer, on Sunday July 14th at 12.00pm. Please bring along your classic cars and please tell and invite anyone else that might be interested. The idea of the meet will be to discuss the future of the club and try form a committee. Please support the club as there is no local club at the moment that is dedicated to classic/vintage cars.

We are going with an informal meet as opposed to an official meeting as it will be easier to organize and a meeting can be called there after.

You Got It Music Talent Show Semi-Final

The 2nd semi-final of the You Got It Music Talent Show will take place in The Kenyon on Sunday July 14th at 8.30pm.
