The Nenagh St Patrick’s Day parade committee are busy preparing for the 2014 Parade and would like to encourage you to participate. Their chairperson Cllr Hughie McGrath tells us the Committee are delighted with the support coming from the locality and are looking forward to this year’s parade and the potential for the town’s biggest ever celebration of Ireland’s national day. Hughie paid tribute to the Nenagh Town Council, for their continued support to ensure the 5th consecutive parade can be facilitated.
The Nenagh parades have been getting bigger and better ever since a local committee revived the event – after a six-year absence – in 2010. Since 2010 over 30,000 people have lined the streets of Nenagh to view our parades and the 5th Anniversary in 2014 promises to be even bigger and better. The parade will again take place on Monday March 17th.
The Nenagh parade will feature a razzmatazz of marching bands, vintage motors, floats and more contributed from across the artistic local community and beyond. We look forward to have all our Local bands participate this year in addition to some visiting bands we have lined up for this year’s parade.
Amongst the visiting bands, we are delighted to welcome back the wonderful Friendship band for this year’s parade. Formed in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, the Friendship Band is made up of 30 players from various brass bands throughout Ireland. Last year they thrilled audiences in Nenagh town over the St. Patricks Weekend and received such a warm welcome they are delighted to be coming back to Nenagh for another taste of wonderful hospitality.
These musicians have performed at festivals in England, Holland, France and Poland, as well as the St Patrick’s Day parade in New York. The band places great emphasis on carnival-style entertainment, which it creates through its choice of music and singing and style of uniforms and are sure thrill the Nenagh audience again this year.
Watch out also for street performers, art displays, face-painting and games for the kids, as well as live music in pubs around town and an after party at Teach an Léann, on what promises to be one of the best days out of 2014 for the all family.
Nenagh will be looking its best on the day, with the town bedecked in flags and bunting, and shopkeepers encouraged to have their premises looking extra colourful and festive.
Some 78 entries took part in last year’s parade, representing all interests from music and dancing to art and motors, sports, food, serious and humorous displays, all firmly establishing Nenagh as the place to be to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
The local parade committee are now inviting entries and appealing for volunteers to help showcase Nenagh’s community spirit at its brilliant best on St Patrick’s Day 2014.
