Nenagh Players are delighted to present One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest play written by Dale Wasserman (an adaptation from the 1963 novel by Ken Kesey) and directed by Kevin Whelan at Nenagh Arts Centre Wednesday 13th to Sunday 17th November nightly at 8pm.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest was also made into a film in 1975 directedby Miloš Forman starring Jack Nicholson. The second film ever to win all five Academy Awards (Best picture, Actor in a lead role, Actress in a lead role, Director and Screenplay). Dale Wasserman wrote for Theatre, television and film for more than fifty years and is best known for his multiple Tony award winning musical Man of La Mancha.

The play tells the story of Randle Patrick Mc Murphy a crook about to face a short prison sentence who claims insanity in a plan to escape Prison labour. His plan backfires when he is sent to a mental asylum where he befriends the other patients, tries to liven up the place and rebels against the oppressive iron fisted Nurse Ratched.

We are delighted to have Kevin Whelan a long-standing member of the group direct his first full length play with us after successfully directing many One Acts and Dinner Theatre short plays. Kevin directed Brian Friel’s hilarious comedy ‘The Communication Cord’ with Lissenhall Players in 2018. The cast are Adrian Fahey(Randle P.Mc Murphy), Maggie Smith (Nurse Ratched), Kevin Ryan(Chief Bromden), Donal Bray (Dale Harding), William Casey Boyle (Billy Bibbit), Joseph Mulcahy(Scanlon), Colin Dillon(Cheswick), Noel Stanley(Martini), Willie Grace(Ruckly), Anthony White (Aide Warren), Kevin Whelan (Aide Williams), Stuart Andrew (Aide Turkle), Michael Donegan (Dr. Spivey), Gráinne De Stafort (Nurse Flinn), Heather Broad (Candy Starr), Victoria Cussen (Sandra).
