Men to Wear ‘High Heels’ in Effort to Raise a Discussion Around Sexual Violence

On Monday night March 9th, Rape Crisis Midwest staff, volunteers and supporters arrived at the Strand Hotel for the launch of their annual event ‘Walk in Her Shoes’ – as the name suggests, the event is asking local men to put on a pair of high heels and ‘walk in her shoes’ to raise awareness around the topic of sexual violence. The launch was a photo opportunity for an event being ororganised by Rape Crisis Midwest – this event is taking place on Saturday,11th April across the Midwest in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.

In Nenagh, the event will take place on the Main Street starting at the Hibernian Bar and weather permitting we will ask the men to walk up the town.

Martina Carroll, counsellor in Nenagh centre spoke about the importance of such an event – this comes on foot of temporary closures across the Midwest last year in an effort to save costs.

The day will be very much a family day – women and children are more than welcome to attend. In addition, there is a photography competition in the build up to the event ‘Theme Red’ where amateur photographers are asked to submit photos with the theme ‘red’. More details about the photography competition and the event itself are available on our website - www.rapecrisis.ie
