Dog Show & Family Fun Day

Is your 4-Legged-Friend constantly scratching at the door? Are you forever being pestered to take your pooch for walkies? Is he or she whining and crying all the time to be pampered and spoilt? Dogs have a way of sensing these things, so it must be because they want to look their best for the rapidly approaching Newtown Dog Show and Family Fun Day!

The event, now in its fifth successful year, will again be held in Barry’s Field, Newtown, Nenagh on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May. This year the organising committee are delighted to announce that all funds raised will again go to Ormond Special Olympics Club, Nenagh.

Competition will take place in 8 Show Classes and 4 Fun Classes, including

1. Best Large Breed,

2. Best Terrier,

3. Best Labrador/Springer,

4. Best Pointer/Setter,

5. Best Gundog,

6. Best Bitch,

7. Best Dog,

8. Best Small Dog or Bitch.

The Fun Classes will include -

- Scruffiest Dog or Bitch,

- Waggiest Tail, and the always popular

- “Best Dog and Owner in Fancy Dress!”

A further Fun Class has also been added :-

- Child’s Best Friend (for owners of 10 years old and under).

Beautiful Crystal Trophies will be presented to The Overall Show Champion and Runner-Up, and Rosettes will be awarded for 1st to 5th places in each class.

There were almost 200 entries last year across the various classes and two Show Rings will be available again to ensure that the event runs smoothly on the day. To get competition off to a prompt start, the Show Committee have decided that registration for entries will commence from the earlier time of 12.30pm.

Once again the always entertaining Dog Agility Ring will be a feature of the show. The Draw for a Tractor Trailer of logs will take place on the day, so watch out for the entry forms in your local shops soon, with lines again only €2 each. Sponsors and backers, both old and new, have again been generous in their support and there will be lots of Games, Stalls and Activities for all the family, as well as refreshments both on-site and in the village. All the usual favourites will be at the show again, including Face Painting, Kids’ Bungee Jumps, an Octopus Ride, and we are also expecting an appearance by the mysterious Dark Knight.

As before, entry to Barry’s Field for the show will be free and it is hoped that the bucket collection at the gate will once again be generously supported for the benefit of the very deserving local cause of Ormond Special Olympics Club.

Even at this late stage, the show committee are happy to hear from anyone who would like to discuss booking limited remaining space for their stalls, or from volunteers to help with the many duties required to ensure everything runs to plan on the day. Please telephone the committee members on either 087 2736559 or 087 9511211.

So mark your diaries for Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May to ensure you don’t miss out on this great fun day for the whole family, including your four legged friend. Get those pooches pampered, exercised, brushed and spruced up, ready to show them off on their big day and keep your fingers crossed for a sunny 2013 Newtown Dog Show and Family Fun Day.
