Dark comedy-drama ‘Underneath’ comes to Nenagh Arts Centre this Sunday.
Following the runaway international success of ‘Forgotten’ and ‘Silent’, Fishamble – the New Play Company brings Pat Kinevane’s third solo play, ‘Underneath’ to Nenagh Arts Centre on this Sunday, 15th March.
This stunning new play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life. It explores the surface, and what lies underneath. Playing the central character, a woman struck by lightning as a girl whose life is subsequently shaped by the disfigurement, Kinevane said that the idea for the piece - was influenced by “the growing obsession in the world with the aesthetic of beauty”.
Kinevane brings his incredible physical presence and a lilting Cork voice to bring this drama to life. Poetic asides are combined with an stand-up comedy-like irreverence as the plot unfurls. It’s a rich theatrical piece – a gothic comedy.
‘Underneath’ plays at Nenagh Arts Centre at 8 p.m., on this Sunday, 15th March. Tickets are €15 from the Arts Centre on 067 34400 or online at www.nenagharts.com
