Thirteen things to do in Nenagh this week!

Film Auditions

Listen up young men! There are open auditions for the film Trampoline at Nenagh CBS secondary school this Friday, December 7th. A production company (led by Tom Ryan) are looking for a male (aged 16-18) to play a role in the film. Shooting will also take place in Nenagh. Auditions will be held after class on Friday evening. All who are interested are welcome to attend.

Brass Band

The Nenagh Brass Band and the CBS Band are performing in a carol service at the St Mary of the Rosary Church on Friday, December 7th at 7.30pm.

Festive Fashion Show

Larkin’s Bar & Restaurant is hosting a festive fashion show by the shore of Lough Derg on Friday, December 7th. This represents the ultimate pre-Christmas night out. The event will treat patrons to a divine fashion experience courtesy of award-winning local designer Marion Murphy Cooney. You will also be greeted with a glass of Prosecco on arrival. Dinner will be served at a cost of €25 per head. Proceedings conclude with a 60s-themed disco. For more information please contact 067 23232.

Santa’s Grotto

Nenagh AFC are the running the Santa’s Grotto from this weekend in Quintin’s Way - opening hours: December 8th (12 noon to 5pm) & December 9th (2pm-5pm). Visit Santa and get a wrapped present and photo taken for just €10.

Christmas Tree of Remembrance

The Christmas Tree of Remembrance will be lit on Saturday, December 8th at 4pm. A short ecumenical service will accompany the ceremony while it will also be followed by music courtesy of the Silvermines Folk Choir. Donation envelopes are available from the Nenagh Guardian office and local banks with all proceeds going to the North Tipperary Hospice. Fill in your envelope with the name of the person that you would like to be remembered and the hospice will dedicate a light on the tree (minimum donation €5).

Table Quiz

A table quiz in aid of Chernobyl Life Line will take place at The Well on Saturday, December 8th at 8.30pm. Teams of four - €20 per table.

Play Youth Theatre Presents

The Play Youth Theatre presents their annual production under the direction of Joanne Quinn and Aoife Carry at the Nenagh Arts Centre on Sunday, December 9th (3pm & 7pm). Come and see these inspiring teenagers who have spent the past couple of months working together to create this production. Tickets are priced at €7.

Silvermines Historical Society

The Silvermines Historical Society will host a seminar on the life and times of Richard Dalton Williams (the poet and patriot) in the Eagle’s Nest, Dolla on Tuesday, December 11th at 8pm. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of this famous man who was reared locally. The talk will revolve around his involvement with the Young Ireland movement, his poetry and his final years which were spent in the United States. The talk will be presented by Tim Boland of the Silvermines Historical Society. All welcome.

Hospital Meeting

The Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh will host a public meeting on the future of Nenagh Hospital on Thursday, December 13th. The public meeting has been called by Mayor Lalor McGee (Labour).

Art Exhibition

Artist Beate Gilson is currently displaying a collection of oils on canvas and acrylics at the Nenagh Heritage Centre. Beate’s paintings are reasonably priced. The exhibition will run until December 19th. Admission is free.

Nenagh Ormond RFC

The senior side is away to Navan in Division 2B of the Ulster Bank League on Saturday (Belreask, 2.30pm) and a bus for supporters is leaving the clubhouse at 9.15am. The seconds’ game scheduled against UL Bohs for Sunday has now been postponed. Don’t forget that on December 22nd Nenagh Ormond play Dolphin in the final of the Munster Plate at Musgrave Park. A bus for supporters is being organised so anyone who wants to travel should contact Ger on 086 252 7212. The annual table quiz will also take place in the Dapp Inn on December 14th. Munster are, of course, in Heineken Cup action on Saturday when they host Saracens (6pm) at Thomond Park.

Junior Soccer

The highlight of this weekend’s action is the clash of Nenagh AFC and Pike Rovers in the fifth round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday in Brickfields (2pm). Following last season’s run to the Munster Junior Cup final Nenagh AFC will face into this huge challenge in confident mood. Also in the FAI Junior Cup Arra Rovers host St Kevin’s Boys (2pm) while in the Munster Junior Cup Nenagh Celtic are away to BT Harps (11am).

Gaelic Games

On Sunday, December 9th the North Tipperary Junior A Football Final between Shannon Rovers and Borrisokane takes place in Ballingarry at 12 noon. Meanwhile Burgess will face Toomevara in an Under-21A Hurling Semi-Final in Puckane at 1.30pm. The Under-21B Hurling Championship Semi-Final also takes place on Sunday and features Portroe against Kildangan in Kilcolman at 1.30pm. On Saturday at the Ragg Borris-Ileigh face Kilruane MacDonagh’s in the County Junior A Camogie Final (1pm) while the North Tipperary GAA Board Convention takes place in the Nenagh Éire Óg Complex on Monday evening at 8pm.
