“The Thing About December” Nominated for Major Book Award

Following on from a very successful launch of his novel "The Thing About December" in The Nenagh Bookshop on Friday 25th October, Donal Ryan has once again been recognized by the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards Committee. Donal's novel "The Thing About December" has been shortlisted for the 2013 "Eason Novel of the Year".

"The Thing About December" tells the story of Johnsey Cunliffe in a heart-twisting tale of a lonely man struggling to make sense of a world moving faster than he is. Village bullies and scheming land-grabbers stand in his way, no matter where he turns. Set over the course of one year of Johnsey’s life, The Thing About December breathes with his grief, bewilderment, humour and agonizing self-doubt.

The 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel (formerly the Burlington Hotel) on Tuesday November 26th. The awards dinner has become a major event in the Irish literary calendar, bringing together the entire literary community - readers, authors, booksellers, publishers and librarians – like no other awards.

Donal's debut novel "The Spinning Heart" was voted the Bord Gáis Energy Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards gala dinner in November 2012. Donal also took the accolade of “Sunday Independent Newcomer of the Year Award” at this event.

Donal Ryan is a former student of Nenagh CBS and graduated with honours from the University of Limerick where he studied law.
