The Pantry Cafe Wins Best Casual Dining in Tipperary Award

The Pantry Cafe, Nenagh has won an award for Best Casual Dining in Tipperary at the Munster Regional Final of the 2014 Irish Restaurant Awards held at the Limerick Strand Hotel on Tuesday April 29th. The award ceremony in association with the Sunday Independent Life Magazine honoured the top restaurants and chefs in the six counties for 2014.

The Pantry is a buzzing hive of activity at all times. Aside from the hot specials of the day (typically roast beef, salmon in a white wine and chive sauce, roast chicken), you can choose from a range of warm salads (pear, goats’ cheese, pine nuts, beetroot and salad leaves, for example), or go for something quaintly called the ‘hot belly’ experience, where you choose a roll or a bagel and then wait for it to be filled to bursting with all kinds of goodies.

Vegetarians and coeliacs are always catered for – pasta with freshly made tomato and basil sauce liberally sprinkled with parmesan, perhaps, or a warm chicken and ginger noodle stir-fry that is simply to die for. Those with a sweet tooth will be happy with the wide range of homemade pavlovas, coffee cakes, tarts and crumbles.

Adrian Cummins, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, speaking at the awards said “The Irish Restaurant Awards celebrate their sixth year this year and have become the Island’s biggest food awards. The credibility that these awards have is reflected in the amount of nominations they received this year- 19,000 nominations were cast across nine categories, showing that these are the awards that everyone wants to win”.

He went on to say “The Irish restaurant scene is internationally recognised for its high calibre of restaurateurs and chefs. These awards celebrate the people that make the restaurant sector the dynamic and exciting industry it is. They are the people who provide 64,000 jobs to our economy and generate revenue in excess of €2 billion. We’re recognising the talent, hard work and commitment that everyone here gives to the food industry. Tonight, everyone is a winner.”

All County winners go forward to the Regional and All Ireland Awards in the Double Tree Hilton Hotel, Dublin on Monday 9th June 2014.

Congratulations to Grainne and all the staff at The Pantry and best wishes for the finals on June 9th.
