Under 14 East Munster League Semi-Final
Nenagh Ormond RFC v Fethard RFC
Due to the recent inclement weather our Under 14s had waited for over six weeks for today’s league semi-final. To say that we were chomping at the bit would be a small bit of an understatement. We were a bit concerned by the enforced long lay-off and also the fact that our opposition were quarter final conquerors of Thurles, the only team to take a point off us in all our group games.
This concern was borne out in the first few minutes as we conceded a soft try. The much bigger Fethard unit seemed poised to do serious damage but our reply was swift and decisive. After good work in loose our superior rucking and ball-handling created the opportunity for Dylan Murphy to cause havoc in the hastily retreating Fethardrearguarddefence and get in for our first try. Over the rest of the half we continued to dominate possession and territory and good teamwork led to two further tries from Ruari Moylan. The strong gusting wind made conversions extremely difficult but captain Hugh Guest still managed to help make sure we led 17-5 at half-time.
The second half was only minutes old when Dylan Murphy again pierced the Fethard cover to increase the gap and give us some breathing space. After a long clearance following some continuous pounding of the Fethard try-line they broke clear and eventually managed to send their winger around the outside of our defence to bring the score to 24-10. However, any fears of a comeback were squashed when Dylan Murphy was on hand to crash over for his hat-trick and the conversion brought the score to 31-10 which is how it all finished up.
This was a great team performance and we now need to go and finish the job. A special word of thanks to all the mothers who help with organising the richly deserved refreshments for the lads and the visiting team and their mentors after the game. We would also like to wish all the players and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. We will be in touch with regards to training arrangements ahead of our next game.

Cobh Pirates 10-3 Under 16s
Nenagh Ormond Under16s finally got their Pan Munster Cup campaign under way when they travelled South to take on Cobh Pirates in the first of their matches in this phase played in league format.
Due to a number of postponements over the last few weeks caused by the poor weather conditions this was the boys first full match since early November. That lack of match fitness told in the first half where Nenagh, with the wind at their backs, dominated territory and possession but could not get the phases together to make that domination pay off. Their only reward was a penalty, excellently converted by Conor O’Brien. The score at half time was Nenagh 3 Cobh 0.
In the second half the boys now faced into the difficult elements and did so very well. In fact they dominated most of this half too and came close to scoring on a number of occasions. However, two breakaway tries for Cobh proved the match deciders. The first by their right winger was from a well worked backline move from their own half after Nenagh had turned over possession. The second try came in one of the few periods where Cobh were in good field position and a number of phases between forwards and backs led to their centre scoring. Neither were converted so with 10 minutes remaining Cobh led 10-3.
The Nenagh boys fought right to the end to get a score that might get a draw for them. Jack Moran, Eamon Hough and Jack O’Keefe all got to the five metre line but were unable to make the last few metres due to some robust Cobh defense. With the last phase of the game Ronan Kelly thought he had got over for a try but the referee rightly adjudged that he had been held up over the line and blew the final whistle.

Garryowen 27-14 Under 13s
Nenagh Ormond Under 13s travelled to Dooradoyle on Sunday morning to take on unbeaten Garryowen in our last league game. After suffering some pretty high scoring defeats in our last three games one had to be worried about the task ahead. How wrong one can be as our lads absolutely tore into the light blue jerseys and treated us to a performance that all in the club can be proud of.
The game was played on the artificial pitch which made for some breath-taking rugby from both sides made possible by excellent refereeing form Leo Colgan who had been refereeing in the European Rugby Champions Cup the previous weekend. We started excellently and kept the ball through many phases for the first ten minutes. We were unfortunate that Garryowen intercepted on half way to score under the posts and they added a penalty soon after to go 10 points clear even though we were playing all the rugby.
But then after some great team play Josh Delaney got possession on our 10 metre line and left everyone in attendance in awe as he ran through, around and over the opposition to score a magnificent try under the posts. It was 10-7 at half time and Nenagh were really in this game. Early in the second half things got better when a quick tap penalty by Niall O’Sullivan found Josh and he repeated his earlier run from 20 metres out this time. James Finn kicked a tremendous conversion from wide out on the left. We were now 4 points ahead with 15 minutes to go.
However, Garryowen aren't unbeaten for no reason and they made a raft of changes and started to stretch us with some great last ditch tackling saving the day on a number of occasions. Josh injured himself making a super try saving tackle and had to come off which probably gave Garryowen some relief. The last 10 minutes were spent defending and they eventually wore us down scoring 3 late tries to leave the final score 27-14.
All players can be really proud of their performance and this was by far this team’s best ever day in the Nenagh jersey. The front five of Jack Gleeson, Sean Fitzgerald, Cian White, Tom Kennedy and Josh Delaney worked themselves like never before and never gave an inch and they supported our back row of Sonny Dower, John Brislane and EoghanTighe who caused havoc all over the field and won many turnovers.
Because our pack played so well the backs got much better ball and our half backs of Niall O’Sullivan and James Finn showed great composure to set our three quarters free on numerous occasions. Peter Collins and DJ McGrath made some great decisions in attack to free Adam Clear, PadraicHassett and Paul Seymour. The subs who came on and kept the standard high were Eoin Quinn, Andrew Ferris, Liam Cooney, Adam Steed and Libor Tomesek.
Thanks to everyone for their commitment in the first half of the season and we have a break now for two weeks. We wish all our players and their families a very happy Christmas.

Our final Under 11 training session of 2015 took place last Sunday in Lisatunny. Considering the time of year we had a good attendance of 18 players. We played a full, intense match of 9 a side. This was a very lively game between two evenly matched sides with lots of tries and, more importantly, lots of top notch defending.
The ever improving Tristan showed just what he can do, scoring tries, setting up others and defending. The flying Amy showed her great pace, setting sail and scoring a great try in the corner. The watching parents really enjoyed the match and it was great to finish the year on such a positive note.
We send all our young players, parents and coaches our very best wishesfor Christmas and we look forward to a successful, prosperous and sporting 2016. Training resumes Sunday, 10th January, at 10am.
