Under 12’s

Nenagh OrmondUnder12’s travelled to Cashel on a fresh morning for matches versus Cashel and Waterpark. We were missing some of the stronger players through illness and communion masses but 11 hardy men turned out in very difficult underfoot conditions.

We played Waterpark first and the Nenagh boys were slow out of the blocks. Some poor tackling allowed some soft tries in the first half but after some harsh words at half time there was a much better second half showing, with some excellent tackling by Charlie Cavanagh, Ted Evens and Joseph Gleeson. Waterpark were a good side and played some lovely rugby in the difficult conditions.

The second match after a break was more closely fought, Cashel scored a couple of early tries but the Nenagh boys tackled much better in this game and were rewarded when Joseph Gleeson made a blind side break and scored an excellent try in the corner. There was a couple of knocks shipped by Ted Evens and Eamon Moran but the boys stayed on the pitch and battled on, much to their credit. In this game there was some excellent running by Conor Tierney and Paddy Griffen made a barnstorming run near the end.

Top tackler on the day was Joseph Gleeson, who showed his teammates the benefit of tackling by the legs and not going high on the body.  Lots to work on in training in Lisatunney at 11am next Sunday, weather permitting.

Team ; Frank Manley, Ted Evens, Eoin Ward, Paddy Griffen, Joseph Gleeson, Jack O’Flaherty, Eamon Moran, Conor Tierney, MateliHermange, Charlie Cavanagh, Arron.

Under 11’s

Last Sunday our Under 11's travelled in numbers to Cashel RFC to take part in a blitz against the home side and Waterpark RFC.  On a bitterly cold morning our young players divided into two teams and each team played two matches ensuring everyone that travelled got lots of gametime.

Results were mixed but it was a great morning of rugby and in patches we really showed what we can do. In fairness the ground was very soft and didn't allow for any of our speed merchants to display their skills, and the bitter cold wind probably didn't help our stronger ball carriers.

On the morning we had a few players who felt unwell and were unable to play, while injury struck a few more.  In particular we wish Cormac, Danny, Fred, Matthew and Eden a speedy recovery and we hope to see them back to full health next Sunday. We also send our best wishes to one of our stalwarts , John Mulvihill and hope to see him back in action very soon.

Highlights of the day included an absolutely outstanding try saving tackle by newcomer Mikey Morgan and an equally outrageous try by his twin brother Josh - these two new players are a marvellous addition to our panel.  Special mention also to Zac who tackled ferociously all day and William Fogarty who made some great runs.

Our thanks to Cashel and Waterpark for a sporting and enjoyable morning and to Cashel RFC for their hospitality.  Our thanks to all the parents who made the journey and to all the coaches.  Next Sunday we are at home to UL Bohs - details to follow by text.

Under 9’s

The Nenagh Ormond under 9's played some great rugby in muddy conditions in the Cashel Blitz on Sunday last. Well done to all who played and thanks to the parents who travelled in great numbers.

Player of the day was Daniel Connolly, another of our third generation players who is keeping alive his family's proud tradition in the red and white. Try of the day came from a break in midfield by DaireO'Dwyer. He picked out the supporting Harry O'Brien and found him with a brilliant pass. Harry still had work to do but managed to evade the cover and touch-down in the corner for a great try.

We have been invited to do a Guard of Honour for the Senior team at the A.I.L. game on Saturday. Meet at the clubhouse, Lisatunny at 2pm. Training in Ballymackey next Sunday morning at 11:30am.

Under 7’s

Fourteen Under 7 players went to Cashel RFC last Sunday and played against two very good Cashel teams. The heavy ground slowed down some of our fast players who we usually see moving quickly into space at training on the all-weather facility. Everyone enjoyed the dry Spring morning in Cashel and the hospitality provided afterwards.
