NORFC Table Quiz

Nenagh Ormond’s annual table quiz takes place on Friday week, February 12th in the Dapp Inn at 9pm.  This is always a very enjoyable night so grab three friends and join us for questions & craic and help to support your club!

Waterpark 20-10 Under 16s

Nenagh Ormond Under16s made the long trip south to Waterford to take on Waterpark in their penultimate match in this phase of the competition on Saturday morning.  As we gathered in Nenagh at around 9am we wondered whether or not the match would proceed as the snow started to fall heavily, but as we got further South the weather started to clear and on arrival the sky was clear while cold and the conditions were ideal for rugby.

Waterpark got the first score when our tackling out wide let us down.  This was an area we had been quite strong in during our recent matches so it was disappointing to concede in this manner.  The conversion was missed leaving the score at 5-0.  A short time later, Conor O’Brien kicked a penalty to bring the score to 5-3.  We were struggling to hold on to our own ball around the rucks and we were getting turned over far too often.  Again this was an area that had not been a problem for us recently!  From one of these turnovers Waterpark got a second try under the posts and the extras were added for a 12-3 deficit.  A further penalty just before half time left us 15-3 down.  On the stroke of half time we looked to be in for a try from a 5-metre line out but the referee adjudged the ball had not travelled 5 metres, so we went in at the break with an uphill battle to climb.

The boys came out in the second half with a renewed determination and midway through the second half, an excellent chip over the top from inside our 22 by Ben Duff was caught at full pace by Evan Murphy and he ran 70 metres evading the would be tacklers to score under the posts.  Conor added the extras for a 15-10 scoreline.  Unfortunately our possession couldn’t get us another score and we conceded a lot of penalties allowing Waterpark to get a foothold in our territory and they got in for a try in the left corner to make the final score 20-10 against us.

The second half display in particular, in trying circumstances, was great to see and that kind of spirit will ensure these boys have a lot more good days than bad. We entertain Ballincollig in a must win game in our final match on Sunday Feb 7 at 12 noon in Lisatunny.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Danny O’Connor after an injury sustained in training during the week.

Team: Michael Bourke, Jack Dunne, Michael Kennedy, John Spillane, Stephen Harding, Jack O’Keefe, Orrin Moore, Evan Murphy, Nathan Deely-O’Meara, Ben Duff, Colum Moylan, Jack Moran, Darragh Flannery, Ronan Kelly, Conor O’Brien, Alex Hayes, Sam West, RuanO’Hanluain, Luke Connolly, Daniel Molamphy, Eddie O’Dwyer.

Under 11s

NORFC Under 11s waiting to clap out the teams on Friday night

Last Friday night our Under 11’s were invited to clap on the Senior XV in advance of their match against Thomond RFC.  We then had a good training session and at half time in the senior match we were given the opportunity to play under lights in front of the large crowd.

This was a special night for all our young players and everyone really enjoyed the chance to show their skills in front of the home crowd.  We thank our loyal parents, coaching staff and most importantly our committed young players.  Thanks to Denis O’Meara for helping out on the night.  This experience was a very worthwhile a hugely enjoyable one and we thank the senior club for accommodating us.

It is really important that young players feel connected to our club and what better way to connect than to play on the same field, clap them on and see the senior payers up close.  We look forward to following this experience up with another chance to show our skills before the end of the season.

Well done to the seniors and in particular our coach Fergal on a fine win.    Following our exploits on Friday night we took well deserved break from training Sunday morning.  We are away to Ballina RFC next Sunday, 7th February – details to follow by text. New players always welcome, why not come along and give rugby a ‘try’!
