Nenagh Éire Óg - Club Notes 26/10/2015

Nenagh Éire Óg Weekly Notes

Senior: Éire Óg’s dream of winning a first county senior hurling title since 1995 ended in heartache at Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon when Thurles Sarsfields enjoyed a one-point win (3-11 to 1-18) over the Blues. Despite falling nine points behind in the opening half Éire Óg fought back manfully and pushed Thurles Sarsfields to the very limit - unfortunately the defending champions edged this dramatic contest with a late, late surge of scores. For a full match report on this enthralling final please see the club website.

The Nenagh Éire Óg club would like to wish Thurles Sarsfields all the very best in their up-coming Munster club championship campaign. Thurles are scheduled to face Limerick champions Na Piarsaigh in the provincial semi-finals.

The Nenagh Éire Óg club would like to thank the senior panel of players for the magnificent manner in which they have represented the town, the club, their families and, especially, themselves this year. A special mention must go to the management team led by manager Liam Heffernan; Nenagh Éire Óg were coached by John Fitzgerald (Na Piarsaigh, Limerick) while Eddie Tucker, Donie O’Brien and Brian McDonnell acted as selectors.

Manager Liam Heffernan surrounded his players with a terrific support team and our sincere thanks goes to them - Matt Lillis (logistics), Liam Quinn (first aid), Noreen Ryan (first aid), Paul Ryan (physiotherapist), Paul O’Farrell (doctor), Eugene McGovern (strength & conditioning coach), Natal O’Grady (goalkeeping coach) and Enda O’Sullivan (video analysis). Thanks too to Enda Costello, John Tooher, Noel Coffey, Éanna Costello, Derek Lillis, Mark Long, Cian Tucker, Paul Lillis and Eddie Sheary for their invaluable support and tireless work.

Of course none of this would be possible without the support of the club officers and the club committee. Club chairman Jim Nagle, treasurer Séamus Cleary and secretary Anne Kennedy have worked tirelessly this year to help the team succeed.

Everyone associated with the senior team are also eager to highlight the support they received from the juvenile and Camogie sections of the club. Indeed, the senior group were also delighted by the support received from the people of Nenagh during the campaign.

Under-21A: The under-21A hurling team will face Roscrea in the opening round of this year’s championship which is expected to take place on the week-ending Sunday, November 1st. This year the under-21A hurling team will be managed by Greg Browne (manager), Con Morris and Michael McNamara. The 2015 Walsh’s of Nenagh North Tipperary Under-21A Hurling Championship will be run on a knock-out-loser’s-group system. Éire Óg have been drawn against Roscrea in the opening round. Kilruane MacDonagh’s will face Ballina in a preliminary round game while the remaining first round games will see Kildangan face the winner of the Kilruane versus Ballina game and Toomevara take on Newport Gaels.

Newsletter: The September edition of the Nenagh Éire Óg monthly newsletter is now available to download. As always the edition features all the latest news, photos and match reports while a particular highlight is a look back at the 1993 under-21A county football final between the Blues and Aherlow. Ours thanks go to the club communications sub-committee, in particular Catherine McTiernan and Enda O’Sullivan, for piecing together this terrific publication. To download your copy of the September newsletter please visit the club website.

Night at the Dogs: Tickets are now on sale now for the combined juvenile and Camogie club ‘Night at the Dogs’ club fundraiser on Saturday, November 21st at Thurles Greyhound Stadium. Tickets are priced at €10 and are available from all committee members.
