Nenagh celebrates with the Peoples Picnic 2015

“Nenagh celebrates with the Peoples Picnic 2015”.

What a great way to celebrate the closing of Summer with a wonderful event in the splendid surroundings of the Nenagh Castle. The sun came out last Saturday August 29th as did the thousands of people from Nenagh and the surrounding districts with young and old enjoying a wonderful event called the “Peoples Picnic 2015”. This event was brought to you by the “St. Patricks Festival Committee” with its chairperson Cllr Hughie McGrath with the support of Tipperary County Council in the Nenagh Municipal district.

The castle field was packed with activities, a large marquee and a choice of entertainment as well as a wide variety of stalls, products and services including face painting, Mobile Pet farm(Sponsored by Nenagh Credit Union), Bouncy Castle, Carousels, carnival games, picnic areas, marquee dancing and much more.

Entertainment was kicked off by the ever popular Wedding Band Ebony and they got the dancing going straight away, the atmosphere was set and we knew we were in for a great day ahead. Next up was the Jazz Legend Paddy Cole who opened his set with wonderful numbers such as Ice-Cream and Creole Jazz, he had the crowd warmed up within minutes. He was backed by Ebony and Tony Maher on Keyboards and Frankie Coulahan on Guitar to complete the line-up together they delivered a high energy set with further big numbers including “King of the Swingers, Burbon Street parade and Blueberry Hill” allowing Paddy to display his wonderful talent that has firmly placed Paddy into the Irish Music Hall of Fame. Next to take to stage was Louise Morrissey and straight away she had floor full with dancers. Her set included some great numbers including “Tipperary on my mind” and “Sliabh na mban” and “Except For Monday's”. The band were buzzing and so too were the crowd.

Thankfully, the rain stayed away, and no doubt that helped swell the crowd. Our refurbished castle was in full splendour and the Tour guides were certainly kept busy all day with huge numbers visiting the castle to marvel at its splendour.

Cllr Hughie McGrath told the Nenagh.ie “The People came out in huge numbers to support this event and the atmosphere was brilliant. People were smiling and good humoured and really enjoyed their day. However, things like this don’t happen without a good committee and I am fortunate to have a dedicated St Patricks Festival committee behind me that once again have delivered a successful event”. He thanked the Tipperary County Council in the Nenagh Municipal district and its members as main sponsors and for the help they have provided.

Thanks to Nenagh.ie for promoting the event and ensuring the event was very well publicised the evidence was in the huge crowds that attended.

Hughie ended by saying he was thrilled with huge success the “Peoples Picnic 2015”  and thanked all that supported and assisted in making this event a success.
