Funding of €2.8million for Tipperary Community and Energy Projects

Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed €2.8 million funding for Tipperary community and energy projects from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

A total of €2.8 million has been allocated to Tipperary projects which will result in substantial improvements and savings in homes, community buildings, local authority premises, and sports facilities.

Deputy Coonan said: "Tipperary County Council has been granted funding to retrofit a number of buildings and local authority houses, for public lighting upgrades and installation of renewable electricity generation at a number of local authority sites. North Tipperary LEADER Partnership has been given funding for energy system and fabric upgrades to five buildings, two schools and recreation centres. REIL has been given funding for insulation works to community/parish halls. This is but a sample of the important projects that will benefit from works ranging from insulation, heating and lighting upgrades in buildings, public lighting and water schemes.”

Nationally, 83 community and area energy projects will receive €28m in financial support; leading to estimated savings from the completed projects nationwide are €7million per annum and 21,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided per annum.
