Funding Announced for Local Festivals

Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed funding for six Tipperary festivals from Failte Ireland. The Tipperary festivals which will benefit include Terryglass Arts Festival, Spleodar Festival, Glen of Aherlow, Feile Brian Boru, Clonmel Junction Festival and Rock of Cashel.

"My Fine Gael colleague and Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring TD, today (Tuesday) announced that funding of €564,000 has been approved by Fáilte Ireland for regional festivals and events taking place this year. I am pleased to see Tipperary featuring on the list with a total of €13,500 provided to help fund their endeavours and encourage tourists to the area," said Deputy Noel Coonan.

"It is important to boost tourism activity and revenue in Tipperary. The Premier County has an abundance of sites and activities to offer overseas visitors. We have a rich heritage, a beautiful landscape, and tourism is an important aspect of our local revenue stream."

"Nationally a total of 187 local events will be supported and today’s news follows earlier announcements of almost €2.3m for 27 large national festivals throughout Ireland in 2015," concluded Deputy Noel Coonan.
