Choosing Your Trampoline

It’s that time of year when we look to the outdoors and plan what we hope will be another long hot summer. There are many opinions on the safety of trampolines but there’s no disputing the fact that trampolining is a very good healthy exercise for all ages. Like everything else, every trampoline is different & requires a bit of thought before you spend your money. Do I want a conventional one, with or without a safety net? Do we go In Ground? What size is best? Are some better than other? These are the type of question we get asked daily at this time of year. Almost everyone’s requirements & budget are different, here are some pointers that may help you make your decision.

  • What space can we allow in our garden for a trampoline? This is a question only you can answer but if you’re considering an In Ground, we recommend  2metre clearance around the outside edge of the trampoline, no such requirement for a conventional one with a safety net
  • An In Ground one will look better but will I destroy my garden by digging it up? No you won’t destroy your garden, the hole required is 30″ less than the diameter of the trampoline & 27″ deep at the deepest point in the middle, so the hole is not that big really and because of the shape does not require retaining walls or drainage.
  • What is the difference between a budget trampoline & a “good” one? 4 differences, firstly the steel on will be thicker & stronger on the better ones, secondly, they will have more  & better springs, thirdly, the padding will be heaver, thicker& safer, and finally that mat will be stitched more(up to 8 times more) on the better ones. There isn’t a massive difference in the safety nets however there are many different systems on the market & each one must be assessed on its merits.
  • What weight will the trampoline carry? Again put very simply, the better trampolines will take more weight, fully grown adults are fine to jump on almost all trampolines
  • Is a bigger one safer? Yes is the answer, most injuries on trampolines are caused by collisions rather than by falls, so bigger=more space=less chance of collision=less chance of injury
  • Will they blow in the wind? Yes if they’re not pinned down, quiet simply the trampolines will blow if not secured, the heavier ones are much less likely but still should be secured, the In Grounds will not

I hope this is of some help to you and we look forward to your call to discuss the type of trampoline that’s best suited to your needs.
