A Taste of Lough Derg

June 201616th

A Taste of Lough Derg

June is jam packed with great food events with A Taste of Lough Derg

A Taste of Lough Derg is offering visitors and locals alike a great choice of events to choose from this summer and June in particular has a great selection of food experiences to kick start the summer food series. Speaking at the launch of A Taste of Lough Derg recently, Áine Mc Carthy, Tourism Officer with the Lough Derg Marketing Group and Tipperary County Council highlighted the main events for June and hopes that the unique food experiences being offered around Lough Derg will encourage more visitors to the region. She added that “Some of the food businesses and tourism providers around the lake are coordinating some great events that will give a great sense of what is on offer in the region if you are out and about exploring. From tours of a woollen mill to chocolate tasting, there is a real variety in what you can see and do in Lough Derg”

For June there’s plenty to keep everyone in the family happy. Barry and Lorraine Cahalan from Cais na Tire Farmhouse Cheese near Terryglass in County Tipperary recently won a Silver Medal at the British Cheese Awards and now they are opening up their farm for a tour and cheese tastings on Sunday the 19th of June at 2p.m. Visit the farm, see the ewes and the cheese room and learn about the cheese making process from Barry and Lorraine.

Visit The Boathouse in Annacarriga just outside Killaloe Ballina, reopened, revamped and buzzing on these lazy summer evenings, and don’t miss the chance to take in a ‘Tapas Tasting & Demonstration Evening’ on Thursday the 23rd of June 7p.m. Anyone who loves food will enjoy themselves learning about preparing delicious tapas and enjoying wine, good food and music.

Malachy Dorris is passionate about chocolate. He started up Lough Derg Chocolates in 2012 and last year he opened Lough Derg Chocolate Shop in Nenagh, County Tipperary. If you visit the shop on Sunday the 26th of June at 3p.m, Malachy will be on hand to give a chocolate demonstration. With lots of tasting guaranteed this is an event to ignite the senses.

Equally, Artisan Chocolatier Patricia Farrell from Wilde Ireland Chocolates in Tuamgraney has a wonderful passion for the cocoa bean. She has been hand making Irish chocolate in Tuamgraney since 1997 and will welcome you into her real working chocolate factory on Wednesday the 29th of June at 5.30p. for a hands on unique experience.

Say farewell to June with a Tapas and Cocktails night in Tuscany Bistro in Ballina Killaloe on Thursday the 30th of June from 6p.m until late.
