Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed €211,100 in funding for new Book Rental Schemes in 22 County Tipperary schools. Deputy Coonan said each school has been allocated money towards the provision of their own scheme and this will come as very positive news to many Tipperary schools who currently do not operate a scheme.
"The Government has announced a €15 million School Book Rental Scheme Fund. A total of €6.7million has been provided nationwide to schools who do not have a book scheme. Importantly the announcement also includes €8.3million to be divided amongst all other schools nationwide, including Tipperary, to assist them in the costs of their existing schemes.
"In total 2,111 children in Tipperary schools will benefit from the funding for schools who do not run this scheme. Some of the local schools included in the announcement are Barnane NS who will receive €6,100, Drom NS €7,900 and Rosegreen NS €15,000. DEIS schools will receive €150 per child and non-DEIS schools will receive €100 per child in seed capital funding over the next two years to establish book rental schemes," said Deputy Coonan.
"This funding will benefit all Tipperary schools. The Book Rental Scheme funding was secured through the proceeds of the sale of the national Lottery and will act as a massive incentive to Tipperary schools. This scheme is designed to reduce the costs associated with school attendance and to take pressure off hard pressed parents who want the best education possible for their children.
“It is crucially important that all children across the country have the opportunity to benefit from this scheme," concluded Deputy Coonan.
