Tipperary Tourism Company to host Tourism Seminar on 23rd of November

Following a tourism seminar organised by the Tipperary Local Enterprise Office and Tipperary County Council as part of Enterprise Week earlier this year, Tipperary Tourism Company and Tipperary County Council are hosting a tourism seminar next week, to build on the momentum and enthusiasm shown by the tourism trade at Enterprise Week, and to provide an update on tourism in Tipperary, the Ireland’s Ancient East proposition, the Lakelands proposition which covers Lough Derg, and other important initiatives. Alan Kelly TD, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, will address the inaugural Tipperary Tourism Seminar on the 23rd of November and launch a countywide tourism website www.tipperary.com . The seminar will welcome Fionn Davenport, Award Winning Travel Writer for the Irish Times and Lonely Planet, as guest speaker at the event which will be held in Brú Ború in Cashel.

Tipperary Tourism Company has had a very active year since the formation of the company at the beginning of 2015. Established to promote, market, and develop Tipperary as Ireland’s premier inland visitor destination in both the domestic and overseas markets, the company aims to increase visitor dwell time and increase spend within the county.

According to Marie Phelan, Tourism Development Officer with Tipperary County Council and Secretary of Tipperary Tourism Company, “Since the establishment of the company in February we have been working to build relationships with tourism providers and market the county as a visitor destination. More recently we are focusing on the development of a new strategic tourism marketing and destination development plan for Tipperary which will deliver a clear vision, and roadmap for tourism marketing and development in Tipperary over the next five years, public consultation will begin shortly” She added that “The redevelopment of www.tipperary.com as a tourism portal for Tipperary, listing where to ‘Explore, Experience, Stay & Eat’, is an important marketing tool for the county. The website is complimented with the popular social media outlets of Face Book, Twitter and Pinterest in order to increase awareness of the tourism offering in Tipperary and drive traffic to the website.”

In addition to marketing Tipperary online this year, the company in conjunction with the Local Enterprise Office has organised training for the tourism trade including the provision of the following courses; a Digital Media Master Class, a Food Story Workshop, Pinterest and Instagram training. The company has also collaborated with the Tipperary Food Producers Network to secure funding for food tourism initiatives under the Agri Food and Marine Tourism Projects Scheme administrated by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine.
