Portroe Gathering 2016

PORTROE GATHERING 2016 The 4th annual Portroe Gathering will take place from Friday 26 th August – Sunday 28 th August. Our action packed weekend has become the perfect ending to the school holidays in recent years where the community is to the fore and we endeavour to promote our local businesses throughout a weekend of culture, food, and activity for all the family. It is a fabulous sign off to summer for the many visitors to the Lough Derg area who get to see parts of the locality they may not normally see. We are officially launching on Friday 26 th August in Portroe village. We are delighted to team up with local archaeology enthusiast Derek Ryan and the Ormond Historical Society to showcase some ancient rock carvings that are believed to be the only of their kind in Tipperary. Assembly point is across from Portroe Primary School at 6.30pm. This will be followed by a visitor’s welcome and information evening in Portroe Hall. Here we are delighted to announce our special guest speaker as H.E. The Ambassador of Canada to Ireland, Kevin Vickers. This will be followed by our

homegrown hero awards and a variety show, “Portroe’s Got Talent”.

Saturday 27 th August has a picturesque leisurely country walk to the iconic Millennium Cross situated 1200m up from the roadside on Cloneybrien Hill overlooking Lough Derg. The weary walker will be treated to refreshments on return to base at Killoran Community Centre. On Saturday afternoon we have a family day in Castlelough Amenity area where we will celebrate the fantastic public facilities recently installed there. We will also unveil our very special Secret Fairy Doors Imaginarium. evening we have outdoor platform dancing in Killoran with music by Tom McCarthy.

Sunday 28 th August will see the Jim Madden memorial cup be contested in Portroe GAA Grounds featuring a BBQ and family fun games. Everyone is welcome. On Sunday afternoon the weekend’s festivities move to the beautiful Garrykennedy where we will host platform dancing by the lake and a family fun day. With over 1000 people expected at the various events an action packed weekend is in store.
