Nenagh will host the Nenagh Silent Film Festival on Valentine’s weekend (February 14-17th, 2013). This inaugural event will represent an opportunity for lovers everywhere to rub shoulders with film enthusiasts and film-makers in experiencing a festival with a difference. Some of the events that will be hosted by the Nenagh Silent Film Festival include several linked presentations by guest speakers, film-Making workshops, Valentine-themed events, a masked ball, a silent disco, a silent movie themed parade, token talkies, an awards ceremony, street theatre, music concerts and much more.
The programme of events will be hosted in several different locations ranging from the Nenagh Arts Centre to other popular local establishments throughout the town of Nenagh.
Reginald Ingram Montgomery, Hitchcock’s father, came to Nenagh from Dublin on October 6th, 1898. Reginald - who would later change his name to Rex Ingram - lived for approximately two years and seven months in Nenagh as a young lad. As an adult he would travel to Hollywood where he would become a world famous director of some of the silent era’s most well-known classics: Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, His Robe of Honour, The Prisoner of Zenda, Under Crimson Skies and Scaramouche. He was also the director who provided Rudolph Valentino with his first break in Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
